I am taking my driving test soon, and I am wondering if i will be able to get insurance. I will also be taking part in the Pass Plus Scheme. I would like to purchase a Mk1 Fiat Punto as it is only (i think) a Group 2E.
My problem is I already have endorsements on my Provisional License. I bought a moped the day I sent my Provisional application away to Swansea. I was without a license, insurance, and no proof of a MOT (no certificate), and I stupidly decided to take it out for a 'little run' the evening the next day. I had not even went a mile from my house, when I was pulled over by the local police as my 'L' plate had blown off unknowingly during my short journey. It was quickly realised that I should not of been on the public highway. I had to push the damned thing home.
Date stopped - September 2005
Court Date - January 2006
When my case went to the local District Court I received nine points and a £350 fine. However, it took me a while to get my Provisional back via my solicitor. I got it back showing the code IN10, with a fine of £200 and six penalty points. There was also code LC10, with a fine of £100 and no penalty points. I wonder why the change. I wrote to the DVLA a while back now, and I received a reply stating, "the endorsements on your counterpart are what you have."
I also wrote to Jason Dawe of "Used Car Roadshow" shown on Men & Motors, and in his reply he said if I shopped around I would be able to get insurance on a small car such as a Toyota Yaris, a Ford Ka, or a Honda Jazz (isn't too small to me,lol).
Would anyone be able to give me some sort of advice, as I would really like to get a car on the road, as I will need a car for family reasons as well as enjoyment. My parents do not drive.
I am planning to take out a year long loan to pay for insurance as the bank has cheaper interest rates than insurance companies. Also, there is what I would call a residential car park round the corner from my house. It is just off a very short dead-end road, and it is used mainly by visitors to the pensioners in the OAP houses. Would this help lower my premiums?
Thanks for taking the time to read this, and any replies will be greatly welcome.
Cheers, Dave
