I won and paid for an item sold by a mr John Walton ebay seller id kevlinet from luton. He was a new ebayer [0 feedback] but the 10-15 ads seemed legit and did not have any of the usual scam warning signs.Payment was requested through Halifax Plc Internet Savings bank Halifax W.Yorks HX3 0TA.Halifax Sort-Code: 11-18-11 Account Number: 16288813 Roll Number: 2/93744236-9 Im told by another ebay victim his [or her ] phone number is 07040900198. Anyhow after selling and probably receiving between £2000-£3000 for the various ebay sales and getting 4 negative feedbacks kevlinet shut the account .I have been in touch with the other negative feedback leaving ebayers but because the account is now shut other people that have been ripped off cannot leave feedback and I cant contact them so Im hoping that this thread will show up on google and get me some results. " Any of the personal info " above is clearly shown on the ebay ads and invoices of kevlinet ( -4 ) so should not be deemed sensitive. Any further info that I can hand to the police would be handy thanks all ,victor :@]

Hi Victor,
It may be coincidence, but, I had a similar incident with a new ebay trader called antonio_bbc1 (Email Name Antonio Scott). This was for exercise equipment, again about 20 lots, going on average at about £300 a time. The reason that it looks like this may be related is that although it is a different account code and sort number, it is the same branch of Halifax (HX3 0TA).
I am getting a case raised with Lancs police at the momment and have contacted the Hlifax to get them to monitor the account, but it may be worth comparing case notes to see if it is the same person.
MOD certainly seems similar, multiple lots, no contact once money was received, negative feedback posted then account disabled to stop any further feedback.
Email me back if you want any further info,
Peter Lambert

I too won an item from Mr John Walton, i nearly purchased an Alto Mistral 2500 power amplifier for £152 tonight, but having found this forum i have decided not to pay and that 1 negative feedback is probly better than being £152 out of pocket!
he now goes by the ebay user name of 'dugford9' (registered jan 2007) again this user had 0 feedback & also had 10-15 other listed items all listed at the same time within minutes of each other. most of the other items were musical instraments or pro audio equipment.
the address he sent in the invoice e-mail was:
86 Greengate
Levens
KENDAL, Cumbria LA88NF
United Kingdom
the bank details i was sent to make the payment (the same as what every one else has) is:
Name: Mr John Walton
Bank: Halifax
Sort-Code: 11-18-11
Account Number: 16288813
Roll Number: 2/93744236-9
another e-mail address was given to me in the e-mail which was: dugford9@tiscali.co.uk.
any way i hope this helps any others that have been scammed & possibly prevent any one else getting scammed.
i owe a big thanks to all in this forum for providing me with vital info.
lets hope we can bring this person down to justice!!

John Walton is also using the user name symholter - no neg feedback yet as his 12 items only finished at 7am on Monday.
The bank details are exactly the same.
His latest scam was reported to eBay with a link to this thread - waiting to see what action they take.

I, and a few others, have just fallen for this bloke's scam.
Supposedly from Ipswich, his bank details are identical.
I've contacted the police but I can't find a way to contact ebay - 'Not enough time has elapsed to put in a "Item not received report" this is so the seller has time to pack and post the item'
Typical, innit?
I may get something back from ebay, but I doubt it.
I'm not holding my breath for the call from the police, either.
I should have known better, but the guy had a lot of other items that other people were bidding on ... I know, I know!
I'll be more careful in future. Here's the guy's details, just in case.
Mr John Walton
Bank: Halifax
Sort-Code: 11-18-11
Account Number: 16288813
Roll Number: 2/93744236-9
Email: ymaonald@tiscali.co.uk

If you want to mail your payment, please send it and include a copy of this email to:

I recently bid on and won an item on e-bay after 2 days of emails I got this reply, same people John and Charlotte walton but with the ebay ID kolfnave
Hi
Sorry for the delay in replying, but i'm sure you will understand once I explain.
Basically this auction is a scam, the goods don't exist, if you had payed me for the goods, as you offered, you would not have received them.
But I know your rig and have been to your parties so I don't feel i can take your money.
I would appreciate your discretion obviously and apologise for the inconvenience.
(ps, bring NTA back theres not enough techno in the north of England)
Thanks
Its just lucky that I am a semi famous (sort of) DJ and party organiser or I would have lost my money too.
I will be posting all the details to as many techno and free party websites as i can find in an attempt to find these lowlife scumbags

I haven't found a way to contact ebay.
If you go through their 'contact us' link, you're directed through their reporting system and none of it 'fits' these circumstances.
There is no way to email anyone in ebay. It's all handled throught the 'contact us' link which is useless because you can't do the non-received item until it's 10 days old.
John Walton, or whatever his name is, will be long gone by then.
On a positive note:
I got a call from Surrey police this morning and the guy, Sgt McDermott, seemed really switched on. He found this site right while I was on the phone and was very thorough with his enquiries. He's passing it on to the Met since I reside, rather than work, in that catchment.
Hopefully, this guy will be stopped and punished. Maybe we'll get some money back from eBay, though I'm sure they'll have clauses in their rules that mean we won't. Certainly, we'll all be more careful and, sadly, a little less trusting than before. Well, for a while at least :)

i hope this sucker goes down big time. i've told ebay about it but all they do is give a "tailored" responce. i think ebay will be working with halifax and the police to find out the correct address using bank details etc and then nail him.
you get 40% of your money back i think.
i cant beleive the email he sent one buyer confessing he's a scammer, and that he didnt feel right taking his money as that particular bidder set up techno partys which the scammer goes to!!
its all been reported to ebay.

egax1066 is still active, and surprisingly he has received 1 positive feedback. this seems very very strange to me. almost as if the person who gave him positive feedback is in on the whole thing, i have checked out the items for sale from the guy who left positive feedback and they all seem very very similar to that of egax1066, kolfnave etc but this is pure speculation.

Sorry to bring the mood down again, but this b*stard just caught me out too...
Purchased a Rode NT2-A Mic to set up my home studio - relatively heavy investment that I can only JUST afford as it is - and now I've lost £123 on this scum...kolfnave...Mr John Walton...
I've contact Halifax, the Police (who insist that I have to wait longer as the item MAY still arrive) and obviously can't contact ebay until after a certain time.
I just don't understand...surely Halifax should be getting a number of these complaints on the same account number and be putting two and two together?
I will take my share of the blame for being naive and direct transferrring - I suppose I just put too much faith in people.
Anyone got any suggestions?

When I spoke to the police I gave them the address of this forum. He looked it up while I was on the phone and we did the interview while we were both looking here.
Perhaps you could try the police again and point them to this page?

The B£$"%RD has got me too!
This time using the ebay id ymaonald, same Halifax account, name John Walton.
Wish I'd done a search on google before.
What is really annoying is that ebay choose to not inform any buyers that a seller they have just bought from is no longer a regsitered user, or that someone has just reported him as a conman. The whole way that their system is set up with the 10 day delay before you can start a dispute just seems to let people like this guy continue getting away with it.
It would be simple for ebay to scan invoices to highlight activity from fraudsters like this one, spotting the same bank details, but I guess they don't really care, they are more interested in making ebay appear safe, all the conmens user ids that vannish don't really matter to them.
I have just tried to report it to my local police force. They didn't want anything to do with it! I have to go through the ebay proceedures first.....so this guy/or girl has plenty of time to empty that Halifax account!
oh well, once bitten and all that.....

Hmmm I will try that thanks for the advice...
I am serious about bringing this guy to justice, can those ebayers who don't mind cooperating with the police, who have been stung by the same guy MR John Walton, please email their name, address and phone number to me so that I can refer the cases to the police. I expect that if there are a larger number of people then it is more likely that something will be done, after all Halifax don't want their reputation damaged - so please email new_horizon_870@hotmail.com...
Please don't be scared to send me your details, I will only use them to put the police in contact with you if need be.

i cannot beleive this guy is still operating!!!!! and whats even more annoying is ebay are allowing him to do it!! we have a LOT of cases here, certainly enough to prosecute. i think we ALL need to contact the police and report this guy. surely they can work with halifax and get his address or something. ebay are so blind. i gave them a link to this post too.

Hi everyone ,I never expected any replies from my initial post when I started this .Im glad that we have saved some people from being scammed. Its pretty sad that ebay and the halifax have let this guy just rob everyone and I think that they should be held accountable to a great extent .Im pretty sure that between us there is ample documentation to prove in a court of law that both ebay and the halifax have been notified of this situation now for months and have allowed it to continue and have themselves profited.Im wondering if anyone would have a better idea of our legal situation and if this angle can be followed as Im becoming more irritated by the halifax and ebay than mr walton. He couldnt have ripped most of the people off on this forum and he could have been brought to account if something had been done from the start.Just me grumbling initially has caused quite a stir ,opened up quite a big can of worms and got some progress.Maybe now theres a whole bunch of us and concrete evidence of neglect we can do more.I have a hunch that maybe thousands of people may have been scammed like this by other John waltons who just do what they please and laugh at us.Possibly something can be done to get us taken more seriously.

Hi - I'm new here, but thought it worth joining to support the cause as I (along with several others) fell for this same con on June 17th.
I got in touch with most eBay members who 'won' items at the auction. Most didn't respond but we have 2 cases logged with the police (out of my area as my force say it's a civil matter!). I don't agree!!
This time it was John freeman with user name Tenchall - closed down a few days after the auction. Same Halifax bank account.
I can post more information on progress to date if anyone is interested.
Thanks Victorthecleaner for starting this up and I agree with your sentiments - the police are very disjointed on the issue and eBay will only listen to enquiries from them!!
Banks are of the same mind - police enquiries only!
This scam has netted tens of thousands of pound from innocent people so far this year.
I have posted my grievances to a police related forum and got lots of replies - some more helpful than others. If anyone would like to it review/add comments I'll post the link.
At least one of the CC's in the areas affected needs to get off his but and sort it out!

Just came accross this forum on a random search for something else, but wanted to reply after having a close call on a scam when I was selling my car.
The first post quoted a phone number which started 070. Unfortunately this is a "follow me anywhere" number and usually indicates that the scammer is operating oustide the UK (If they are in the UK then it is easy to get a pay as you go mobile which will not be traceable), therefore any justice is unlikely :( .
