My 'V' 1.7 diesel Corsa (60k) lacks power and gets 30-35mpg urban, 40-45
motorway. It's an ex fleet car so I'm wondering if some form of engine
restriction could be the cause.. I've checked the entire fuel line for
inline devices with no luck, can anyone help..??

I have same car (S-plate)

I get around 550 - 600Miles per tank, whatever that equates to

(400-500 if i drive enthusistically)

For lack distinct lack of urgency?

Mine is desperatly slow, and underpowered for what it is,

I have tried all sorts, and the only thing that would make it go faster,
more urgently would be a turbo and or a stick of dynamite!

Check the exhaust back box. They can block up, this reduces performance
dramatically and increases fuel consumption.

Sounds like I have similar problem, T-reg 1.7
Started feeling sluggish at mid-revs; grubby injectors diagnosed.
A service and several injector-cleaner treatments later, still sluggish and MPG dropping from 55 to under 50. Lots of smoke when trying to accelerate, until sudden sensation like turbo kicking in, when engine would return to normal, pull strongly.
took the corsa to a diesel specialist, they pulled out injectors which were ok, but discovered compression down by 30% and plenum chamber full of soot.
Evidently these engines, though better than GM diesels, have tendency to pull valves into seats, deforming valves, reducing compression etc.
SO - head off, new seats and valves, new cambelt, air + fuel filters. £650 !

Performance unchanged, very miffed.
Still lots of black smoke when trying to accelerate from low revs in all gears, no performance until sudden change to fully working, at around 45 in 3rd, 60-65 in 4th, 70+ in 5th

Diesel blokes reckon injectors might be sticking when hot: doesn't feel right as I wouldn't get proper performace at high revs.

Any ideas welcome
