Why do I get so high quotes?

Ok, so I have used multiple insurance search engines looking for car insurance quotes on multiple cars. I am soon coming up for 17 and am doing my research before buying a car.
My cheapest quote so far has been 1400 on third party fire & theft, which IMO is ridiculous, yes my insurance will be high as i'm going to be new to the road but that price?.
My friends (Who are already 17) have just got on the road with a LOT cheaper deals. One for example has an N reg corsa and got his insurance for 800 full comprehensive and put on 100 voluntary excess. This is quite reasonable IMO, but why are my quotes usually 1000 more.
Also could you tell me which of the folowing would be the best buy/insure:

Vauxhall Corsa (between 6-10 yr old)
Fiat Punto (between 6-10 yr old)
Citroen Saxo (between 6-10 yr old).

Thanks really need help with this one, btw on the quotes I am making out as if I am 17 and have a Full UK Licence sometimes even with pass plus.

I just went on quinn for a quote with a 93 pegeot 106, with pass plus and got 2,300, what the hell is up with that??? read further up the page some guy got insurance for 600 odd? someone tell me an insurance company thats affordable!
