Hi,
My 1990 BMW 520i has just failed its MOT (high emissions)
Idle CO = .60
2500rpm CO = .64
lambda = 1,02
Would it be possible to pass the mot by just tuning or changing the plugs etc?
or do I need a new CAT?
Please help!
John.

Do you do a lot of long journeys, or lots of short journeys?
If you only do short journeys to and from work everyday, it is a good idea to give the car a good long blast every so often to help clear out the cat. If you haven't done so for a long time, this may even be enouh to bring down your emissions sufficient to pass the MOT.

The car had been standing for 9 months.
All I did was change the plugs and give it a good run to warm the cat!
and it past the MOT!
My local garage wanted 800 quid for new cat and sensor.
what a rip off!
I will never trust a mechanic again. :(

My smog test failed twice, they emissions were to high, the second time i went to pass it I poured The Guaranteed to pass Smog product into the gas tank then filled it up with premium gas then drove around for a week, then went to take the smoke- IT FAILED and it the emissions were higher then before, they said that whatever i did to the car made it worser. I got a Mercedes Benz 1990. I need help...........! I got the car from a auto auction and it has a junk title, so it was sitting around for quit a wile to.
