buying car - general

Hi,

I'm intersted in buying my first car (so if possible not v.expensive £500 - £1500) so just need some general advice: 1) What to look for (if brand new and used), 2) Trends on the market... Etc. Anything you find useful.

Additional question: what does it mean that car is N Reg?:confused:

wont get a new car for that, id go with old corsa somthing like that for a 1st car, N reg is the age of the car, im not sure what year but google it, i know S is 1998 tho
