I just got a 98 4 door cavalier - 120,000 km
I drove it 50km and the battery light came on - wife drove it all day 100km and shut off / restarted 15 times battery light on the whole time.
I drove it 10km - it stalled and won't start.
I boosted and the engine revved right up around 5000 rpm and would not idle so I shut it off.
I reset chip (took off battery lead, turned key on and off 3 times) it started right up - I shut it off and now it won't turn over.
Battery is on trickle charge and shows 100% - 40amp battery fuse is okay (I switched it with another one in the engine compartment).
Any ideas - alternator looks to have been replaced.
How it could go all day if alternator is shot. Dealer I bought it from frove it 1000km for 3 weeks with no problems...
Let me know if Cavalier has any similar common problems.
