used car - 2004, £7K, what to buy?

Hi All,

I am looking for a used car to buy, around 3-4 years old, small or medium size (polo/golf). Have around 7K to spend +-500. The car should be reliable and a diesel, as I do quite high company mileage, but i dont really want to go for bland cars either. The reliability requirement suggests I get a Corolla D4-D 2.0, but i have never driven one with a diesel and not sure if its any fun to drive. Alternatively I can go for a Focus (obvious boring choice), Golf (will be higher mileage than alternatives) or Megane (slightly more exciting, good diesels, but is reliability a worry?)

the new megan is relyable, i know someone with one, the only proble with it so far was when she put the roof down an the roof flap bit opend onto a wall, you could get a good last model golf for 7k
