Vw Golf Tdi 1999 - Immobiliser Probs

Please can someone help me with some sound advice before the garage cripples me financially for the rest of the year.

I bought my lovely car only 7wk ago and it is mint. Engine, body work etc. But two days ago the immobiliser packed up and now I can't do a bloody thing with it. i have been told this is a common fault with Golfs but this doesn't help me at all!!!! I have been informed it could be a simple as the attennae isn't reading the key to needed a new ECU. Please can someone advise me.

Did you get this issue solved ? I have just bought a golf, it worked for a couple of days then the same thing has happened. It would help with a quick response as my other half is threatening to take the car apart tonight. Thanks
