Vauxhall Astra 2.0 DTI Loss of power at 3000RPM

I have a 2001 Vauxhall Astra 2.0 DTI estate which has done 52000 miles. When Im travelling on the motorway at approx 3000RPM there is a sudden loss of power and the ecu light comes on. The loss of power and the light stays on until the engine is restarted. One the engine has been restarted the light goes out and the power is back.

Please can anyone throw a light on this please.

I think that the only thing I can think of is Air Mass metre. But before you change that check all the vacuum pipes and rubber unions the do split.
