Hi! Basically my daughter is 18 having passed her test a few months ago. She's off to Bristol uni in September (we live in Nottinghamshire) and she needs a car. I've not bought a used car in years due to having company cars and I'm just after some opinions on what to buy. Basically the following factors are important (as I'm paying for the car and insurance for the first year or two!):
I've got a £2,000 - £2,500 budget;
The car's got to be good for motorway driving;
Dependable;
Focus/Golf sized (don't like the idea of her in a super mini on a motorway - just call me an over protective old dad!);
Cheap to insure and maintain;
Have PAS if poss.
Based on a conversation I had a couple of years ago with an AA bloke (who said that if we all drove Nissans and the like - he'd be out of a job!) I'm thinking about something like a Nissan Almera or a Mitsubishi Carisma.
Any opinions or things to watch out for would be appriciated. Thanks in advance!
