Right-hand chairs are ilegal from 1981 onwards, which is a pity, cos you can
only get the 2WD outfits with a right-hand chair. There's no safety issues
beyond what you'd get with a LHD car, and no-one's been able to
satisfactorily explain why they're banned. My chair is on the other side,
of course.

Right, I've survived.

Charged the battery overnight, slung it back into the bike this morning.
The bike fires up, runs, ticks over happily enough. It's charging, so no
worries there.

So, I heaved a 25Kg bag of gravel into the chair and went out for a trundle.

OMFG.

It shakes the bars constantly, moves across the road with changes in
throttle position, and it's very weird having the chair alongside. Anyway,
I seemed to be getting the hang of it, when I throttled off for an
approaching downhill lefthand curve, and the ****er changed lanes into the
oncoming traffic. It was quite strange, like I was being pushed firmly to
the right. I got back to my side with inches to spare, and chugged back to
the house in a slightly more cautious fashion.

I'll go out for a bit more practice in a little while...

Excellent, sounds like your master plan is moving along nicely[1].

So an advance/retard lever would be a practical reverse selector for an
MZ-powered hack?

The plan has been a bit stalled today, for "domestic" reasons.

Shame... all this talk of side cars, got me thinking how I could put a
chair on my FZR250. After about 10 minutes of thought, I decided that it
would turn a sweet handling thing into an instrument of torture.

Well thought, that man. Actually, I don't think that the MZ has any
advance-retard mechanism at all. I cant think of many points-ignition
strokers I've owned that have.

Lozzo?

Putting it that way, it makes a lot of sense.

True, taking a sweet handling bike, then making it handle like a pissed
jelly fish does seem like a bit of a waste. I've been thinking of
getting either a trike or an outfit for a while, just had more bikes
than money, so it's never happened.

IIRC the RD200 had one with some kind of weighted mechanism that sat
outside of the dynastart, but I could be wrong. Other than that, can't
think of any.

I wonder why not? Also, I wonder if electronic ignition strokers had one
built-in or not.

Early MZ ES had advance bob weights - later ones didn't.

You're not. The RS200 has a couple of spring loaded blob weights which
advance the timing at about 3000RPM.

IIRTC the RD500 had a little black box which adjusted the timing
according to engine speed and throttle position.
