My stepmother just bought a 2004 Toyota Prius. She pre-ordered it. She had promised to give me her old Prius which was a 2001. So, I agreed. Now she is saying that she doesn't like the new car as well so she will give me the new one. I am feeling different emotions about this because I feel like that is a lot of money and they might just be doing it to because they promised to. Do you think I am wrong in feeling this way? Do you think I should tell them I refuse to take it because they are wasting money? Or should I accept the gift thinking that they are in charge and would not do it unless they wanted to?
On another note, if I keep the car, what will I do? I have two cars now. Both in excellent shape, neither paid off. Here are my choices:
1. Sell 1999 Mazda Protege and make $5,000. Have to pay off almost $3,000 on it leaving me with $2,000.
2. Sell the 2002 Toyota Corolla which I owe about $11,000 on and won't make that much and will need to come up with about $1,500 to pay it off.
3. Sell the new car and get about $20,000 straight out. BUT, would that be rude????? And, would it be better to get rid of the older car??? But the oldest car has only 41,000 miles. NEED HELP!
