JUST A WORD OF WORNING TO ANYONE THINKING OF BUYING A LANDROVER FREELANDER PETROL ENGINE.
MINE IS A YEAR 2000, HAVE OWNED IT FOR AROUND 4 YEARS, HAS ALWAYS BEEN SERVICED REGULARLY.
THIS IS A LIST OF WHAT HAS GONE WRONG WITH THE CAR SINCE OWNING IT.
IT HAS NEVER BEEN OFF ROAD AND HAS BEEN DRIVEN VERY CAREFULLY INDEED.
HERE WE GO:
HEAD GASKET HAS BLOWN NOT ONCE, BUT TWICE. COST OF RENEWING HEADGASKET EACH TIME IT HAS GONE IS £1000
TOP ENGINE MOUNTING BROKE, COST OF RENEWING £200
TRANSFER BOX WENT, COST OF RENEWING £1500
DRIVE SHAFT CONSTANT VELOCITY JOINT WENT, COST OF RENEWING £500
I HAVE NEVER HAD SO MANY THINGS GO WRONG WITH A CAR. I HAVE LOOKED AT OTHER REVIEW SITES AND THERE ARE LOTS OF PEOPLE THAT HAVE THIS CAR THAT HAVE EXPERIENCED THE SAME PROBLEMS.
THIS CAR LOOKS REALLY GOOD, IT IS VERY COMFORTABLE. THE DRAWBACK IS THAT IT WILL COST YOU £1000s IN REPAIR BILLS JUST TO KEEP IT ON THE ROAD.
MY ADVICE TO ANYONE CONSIDERING BUYING A LANDROVER FREELANDER, IS DONT DO IT, BUY A TOYOTA OR NISSAN.
IF YOU HAVE TO BUY THE FREELANDER, ONLY BUY ONE WITH A CAST IRON GUARANTEE. IF BUYING ONE FROM A LANDROVER DEALER. ONLY BUY IT IF THE LANDROVER DEALER GUARANTEES THAT THE HEADGASKET WILL NEVER BLOW, IF HE CANNOT GUARANTEE THIS THEN THERE MUST STILL BE A PROBLEM, SO DONT BUY IT!
PS: I have been driving for 34 years, and have had many, many cars, the only car that I have owned that has had its headgasket blow is, you've guessed it, THE LANDROVER FREELANDER, how Landrover got away with this one, god only knows. The motoring press in this country must be aweful, not to have taken Landrover to task for this design fault with the engine.:confused: :confused: :confused: :confused:
