I can't think of any who *couldn't* fully use 80bhp, and a lot more
besides, if they chose to. Not round bends necessarily, but when
nailing it past a queue of trucks & blue-rinsers on a straight.

Yes, fair comment - and I can think of plenty of times, under similar
circumstances, when 80bhp isn't enough ;-))

I chose 80bhp because of Mike Hailwood's[1] oft-quoted remark that, for
a race bike, 80bhp was about right. So when I hear the usual jump
jockeys bragging on about how their steeds are only producing 140bhp and
they need more, or how they keep their 110bhp sports 600s on the limit
every ride, I wonder how they'd fare against Mike the Bike with barely
half the horsepower.

Of course, we all *want* more power, and that is entirely right and
proper.
