SO's XJ apparently pisses petrol out of the breather/overflow pipe (I
think), when he turns it over. I realise it's a bit vague, but I've not
seen it for myself.

Any suggestions?

Most bikes do that when you turn them over - much safer to keep them
the right way up.

Which breather pipe?

If from one of the carbs, then it's simply a sticking float.

I'm not sure tbh.

Either a flow is stuck or there's some muck on the fuel control valve (the
thing the float controls).

A sharp tap with a screwdriver handle may be a temporary fix but a good
clean out in required to prevent re-occurrence.
