I have had my car for sale for 2/3 weeks and have had little interest apart from people who are phoning from a good distance away from me, who always have foreign sounding names (Marco, Ilyas, Roberto etc etc)

The telephone call goes something like this.
Is the car for still for sale?
I am from Manchester/Huddersfield/Birmingham/London (to name a few places) - are you willing to negotiate on the price and by how much?
Does it have a full service history?
Has it had cambelt changed recently?
Where are you based?
followed by waffle, waffle, waffle and no other meaningful questions - I get the impression that they may not even have the advert in front of them but that could be my imagination.
My answers are very circumspect and non-commital without giving too much away as I am very dubious about these calls - in fact everything screams SCAM to me, but I haven't found anything in press/net about this particular way to confirm my suspicions.
Is it my imagination or is it a SCAM?
I cannot believe someone would travel upto 400 miles for a 8 yr old car up 4 less than 2 grand and am fairly certain there would be other examples in their area if they were.

Any advice is greatly appreciated.

better check it out first before you judge it as scam... or ask others if they had the same experience as you had...

i keep getting the same thing while at work......foreign sounding people ringing up to lease a car but not really seeming that interested and asking way too many questions. Im not sure what it is but it happens a few times a week. Maybe we're just getting to paranoid ha ha. One of my friends was selling a van and some Polish geezers drove up from London to Manchester looked at the van...then decided they didn't want it!!! It does happen i guess..

In the land of the blind the one eyed man is king. It sounds like a scam or a complete time waster.

BonzoBonce, I don't blame you one being careful with these calls. It seems some of them succeeded to do a theft identity to some car dealers, they call you first. Then call your colleague and claim to be your friend to get an easy way out with the car. So make sure you don't give away too much.

Hello...
I also think its scam but it might be possible your friend just want irritate you. You have ask any of your friend about that because currently such type of jokes regularly take place among friends...
