Anyone use these?... Im informed by the eye-quack that hey tend to blur your
vision slightly every time you blink until they rotate round to the right
orientation... How much of an issue is this for the average wearer?...
Im considering going for monthly disposables as the most cost effective
solution...
Any advice?....

When you say "monthly disposables", do you mean those that you remove
and clean daily, or those that you put in and use 24/7, for a month at a
time?
I use the latter, but remove and store them each evening because I had
some infection problems with them when using them 24/7. My optician
confirmed that they often cause these sorts of issues.
In the interests of balance, Porl and (IIRC) Mrs Bonwick also use them
without problems.

You could put them in at the right orientation.
Mine have an "M" on the lens which should go at the bottom of my eye.
It means they take a little longer to put in, but you soon get used to it.

I use monthly disposables, but they probably only get a weeks worth of wear
in a month. I don't think I've ever had a pair of lenses last ~30
fittings/extractions.

Never been mentioned to me. Never noticed except when the eyes / lenses are
dry. Effectively nil.

Yes. Buy your solutions from Costco. SWMBO and myself save our entire

How does that work then? Do the "stripes" match, one lens to another, so
one eye provides one bit of the image and the other the other bit?

Let me set the scene. 5 years ago I managed to stuff my Renault Master
van through armco when a tyre blew. In the accident I bent the door
frame with my head. After that i suffered concussion which encompassed
double vision. The concussion went, the vision stayed bad. A trip to the
opticians 3 years later confirmed I needed prisms in my lenses, so I got
new specs.
Over the past 2 years my sight has got a lot worse, to the extent that I
was riding and driving everywhere with one eye shut. The double vision
is that bad that without my specs If someone stands 6 feet in front of
me I see two very distinct people standing there with a foot between
them. Another visit to the opticians and she suggested that I have most
probably torn a muscle in my left eye and that's why I have such serious
double vision. The prescription is so radical and requires that many
prisms that they cannot make a lens that will fit in normal specs frames
with that many oprisms in, and it would be far too heavy to wear.
As a tempororay solution - that is until I have an operation to repair
the muscle - I have been supplied with a secondary lens that has about
25 vertical grooves cut into the inner face. The flat face goes against
the inside of the left lens and is held in by surface tension. The
effect is quite dramatic. I can see properly again and have regained the
peripheral vision and depth perception that I had lost completely.
It looks a bit weird though, a bit like the NHS specs the spacker kid
that every class had, the one with the one milky lens to cure her lazy
eye.
My 13 yr old daughter made the quote about venetian blinds, my son said
they just look like spaz specs. All I know is that without this lens I
didn't realise that my ZX-9R had gay purple in the fairing grapics. My
eye test came after I bought it. I wouldn't have bought the ****ing
thing had I seen that. I could have sworn they were bronzey-gold.

Go for it mate and remember that by the time you have reached the top of
the list medical technology will have moved on enough that the odds will
have improved to 75/25

Get yourself down to the nearest optometrist with an "optomap" retinal
examination machine, and we want to see a jpeg of the result too.

Goddam clinicians are so reluctant to use modern technology.

What will that show?
I'm normally longsighted in my left eye, that I know, but something is
seriously ****ed elsewhere as seen by the figures the last optician
wrote down. I'm no expert on these matters, but when two eyes in the
same head have this much of a variation, then something is very wrong
somewhere. My precription reads:
Sphere Cyl. Axis Prism Base
R +1.00 -0.75 5 7 out
L +3.00 -1.75 170 7 out
Anyone with a clue got any comments?

Nothing a decent optician wouldn't ... they use this stuff too, you
know.
The comment "Goddam [sic] clinicians are so reluctant to use modern
technology" is bollocks ... clinicians are as "look what *I've* got"
driven as lots of other professionals are.

I wouldn't presume to ... it's your *eyes* FFS, and ukrm isn't qualified
to speak on the topic, unless we've a secret expert. I know 2 very good
people, one in Watford, one in Swindon, if you need a second opinion,
but if you've followed advice thus far and you can see the improvement
I'd be inclined to stick with it, but get a 2nd opinion before you go
under the knife; ask questions of your optician, and ask *him/her* to
suggest a second opinion; if they're any good, they'll recommend someone
as good as they are. They seem to be doing fine thus far.

One ukrmer's ex-wife - and quite a babe to boot, if I might say so - is
an optical specialist. I was wondering if he could show her the figures
and get a response.

Any tears or bits floating about in your eye, on a computer screen so
that the optometrist can point to it and say "see that tear there ,
thats what they're going to fix, oh forgot, squint hard and you might
just see it."
It uses a red laser and a green laser, can't remember what they do but
when you can see your optic nerve and the blood vessels on the screen
you can't help but be impressed.
If you're worried about any deterioration you'll have a snapshot to
compare against next time.

I was probably being a bit harsh.
Unfortunately within the NHS they're unlikely to be able to get a
machine costing about £100K or even be allowed to lease it at £16 per
examination like a private practice can.
This thing can take a snapshot of your eye before you can blink and it
can be done in a couple of minutes by a technician. Leaving the
clinician (consultant opthalmologist or whatever they're called) to
pinpoint any bits of interest and making best use of their time having a
good look at your eye.
