I am presently having problems with an insurance company that will not repair my automatic gearbox after a full front end collision. The background in short is that when I received the car back from the panel beaters, although I could drive the car, there was water pouring from the water pump which caused the car to overheat several times and cut out. The panel beaters replaced the water pump with a "new water pump" which was also faulty causing the car to overheat again. After replacing the water pump and receiving my car back for a second time, the gearbox on the same day started giving problems in that when one started the car and drove it approx 50m, it would drop down a gear causing the car to almost stop in its tracks. Additionally there were further electrical faults. My question is this, the insurance company says that the gearbox is behaving in this manner due to wear & tear, could this problem have been caused by the accident (which was very severe necessitating in the replacement of the pipes, brake fluid tank, power steering tank and radiator, part of the front undercarraige, waterpump) and the excessive overheating.
The car had never behaved in this fashion before. From what I can gather, some of the solenoids are damaged. (I had only driven 35 000km, the car had 40500km's on the clock when I bought it from Renault and had been fully serviced before I took ownership of it. In addition it was:) serviced during the time I had it in my possession according the the required standards of Renault). The result of the above is that I have been without a car for 9 months due to the "repair" process or lack thereof.
Your assistance and expertise would be greatly appreciated.
