Hello, i will cut down my long story short to make it easy for you to read,i brought insurance from "More Than" on Monday and recieved a thank you for buying email, http://www.456yx.com/9163533_1682448308.jpgi was stopped by traffic police Thursday last week who told me i had no insurance on the car, i assured them i did, they phoned my insurer who said no insurance was found on the system, the car was siezed, i phoned the insurance company who after several checks found that the quote did not change into a policy because of the incompetence of there system and no certificate of insurance was sent, they provided me with a letter of indemnity via fax which stated that i was insured on the day the car was siezed.:o i took this faxed letter to the police who rejected it as soon as seeing it was a fax and not a certificate,"More Than" cannot backdate the insurance as its not legal and have asked me to buy a new quote wait for the certificate and take it along with the letter of indemnity which they will send by post and should reach me tomorrow, im being fined on a daily basis whilst the car is in the pound and i risk losing my license, i do not know what to do in this sticky situation. Hope you professionals can help. Thanks.

Interesting one...

Well 'More than' are not being entirley helpfull here. Back-dating cover is not legal thats correct (ie:- I could'nt pay for insurance today and say to them, put it on cover from last Monday)........But!. In my experience, if cover is set up on the wrong basis, incorrectly or in error, then cover can be back dated. More than should be able to produce a certificate for you from the inception date and mail it to you.

A certificate of insurance should of been produced when you took up the policy, now wether their 'systems were wrong' or not doesnt pass as an excuse. I can understand why the police are not accepting the faxed copy, as anyone could fake a faxed letter of indemnity. The thing that worries me, is what 'More than' are telling you to do, doesnt make sense. If you take a newly bought certificate down with you, the date of it, wont tie up with the date you were stopped by police, plus you have to pay out for yet another policy. This isnt good advise from 'More than'.

Anything you are fined or charged, 'More than' are legally obliged to re-imburse you for and I suggest you speak to 'More Than' explaining you want all your costs refunded as it their fault you are in this situation. They would sooner pay out someone reimbursement than have to enter into a legal battle, trust me.

Here's what I would do:-

Call 'More Than' insist to speak to a manager (they will HAVE to put one on) - and explain, what your being charged, the fact you expect to be reimbursed for costs, or else you will take legal action against them and the fact you want a better solution.
