With the state of the market and the increasing amount of counterfeit cheques it makes sense to get in writing from your bank that the cheque has cleared and the money is yours.

These parasites are using stolen cheques that can take a while to be flagged as stolen by the owner of the account the cheque draws from. So as a result they can clear but can be reversed if the bank finds it is a stolen cheque.

Get the bank to pick up the liability by confirming in writing that it is a genuine transaction! It may seem a pain to do but it is less a pain than owing the bank £4500 that you donated to a scammer. Always play for time - remember it is you that is selling - and you that stands to lose money when you get a dud cheque.

Remember no where in the world of business does anyone pay more money to a stranger than is needed. Never trust a stranger - you would never buy a car without seeing it first so NEVER TRUST SOMEONE THAT WANTS TO PAY FOR A CAR WITHOUT EVER SEEING IT
