Same scam happend to me but hsbc somehow realised that the cheque was stolen. This happend in November 2003 i recieved a call from the bank telling me that the cheque was stolen and i should not give my car! i WAS NOT TOLD WHAT TO DO NEXT but they did day that the police may want to ontact me. This morning i recieved a form from my bank asking me to sign and authorise the police to look at my account etc so that i can help in their investigation.

When i called up hsbc they were behaving as if i am in fault and told me that i should have written a complaint FIR then.....but i did not as i wasn't sure what was going on.....i will be going to the police tonght though......am i in trouble for not reporting this to the police....surely it was hsbc who should have reported this?

Hi,

Sorry to hear of your ordeal, I guess it is routine that they involve the police. Have they deducted the money from your account? I would cooperate as at the end of the day you are completly innocent, the bank said the money was available in your account. See www.scamvictimsunited.com - the message board for victims of this crime, some have been jailed. The BBC is running a lot of info on this recenlty see www.bbc.co.uk.

I hope it was not through this site that this happened? Let me know - need me to talk with the police let me know!

Thanks! It was not through your site. The bank called me to say that the cheque was stolen so no money was taken out of my account! but i was concerned that coz i didnt report it to the police i may be in trouble. I thought the bank was looking into it
