Frontera Head Gasket gone.

I have a 1992 Frontera 2.3td. I have just removed the cylinder head due to
the head gasket going between cylinders 2 & 3. I am going to get the head
skimmed, but when I get a replacement head gasket, do I need to get a
thicker gasket?

Also, there is the same amount of carbon build up in the inlet ports as
there is in the exhaust ports. Is this normal or do I have a problem with
the EGR valve?

Probably not- but i'd block the bloody thing up on re-assembly and enjoy
slightly better performance (!) and better mpg without it.

Tim,
My MOT is due next month. If I was to block it off, would it get picked up
in the MOT or am I better off leaving it until afterwards?
