we have a jeep grand Cherokee 1996 which we have had for a while however I
have never found out what this button does,,,,,it is a D inside a circle
with off wrote under it, this button is situated in the same panel as rear
wiper control and demist, Thanks

Could it be the diff-lock ?

For Off-Road use only ..

Maybe of you RTFM it may help more ..

It switches of your overdrive (ie top gear). This could be useful if you
were doing a lot of tear-arseing round country lanes and didn't want it to
go into overdrive, which would give you a slight lag as it dropped into
third when you needed a bit of acceleration.

I've had mine 18 months and never used it, except when looking for the
demist and hit it by accident because you can't see the bloody thing.

If I remember rightly it switches off the overdrive, reducing you to three
forward gears.

Disables the overdrive. If you are driving about in a situation where it's
constantly hunting in and out of overdrive. Will actually improve mpg and
certainly reduce wear on the gearbox.
