View Full Version : A solution?

We can hope for this group to become the friendly and informative forum that
it used to be some time ago, while doing nothing and watching one valuable
contributor after another being chased away. Or we can find a couple good
souls who would agree to moderate it. Not an ideal solution, because it
slows the process down a bit and makes it dependent upon the good will and
dedication of the moderator(s). Here is a link to how it might work:

Another model is moving the grop from the ancient usenet mechanism to a more
sophisticated web-based service. The thriving CVN forum might provide a good
example:

(check the 4.6L Technical Talk area in particular)

Again, a dedicated moderator is essential.

Any opinions?

=============================================

Many of the unmoderated newsgroups are infected with
pornography ads, religious ravings, vile name-calling threads
and ridicule of sincere posters who seek help.

Nevertheless, I find the unmonitored newsgroup format to be
the most efficient and productive source of user information.
My experience is that the moderated groups yield less useful
information in the long run. This may be because with the
moderated formats navigation is slow and awkward and only
a few posts are visible at a time. It may be because many
more people visit the unmoderated groups for the excitement,
and are more likely to jot and post a response to a question.

In any case, I have received much more help for my inquiries
to open newsgroups. I appreciate the help I receive, even if
the answer is, "It's your EGR valve, dummy." I almost always
resist the temptation to add my two cents to an ongoing feud.
My life is then stress-free and I get the answers I need.

Thanks to all the knowledgeable and creative members of
alt.autos.ford for helping me so many times.

I second this. Ignoring the troll is the best solution.
