97 Escort 1.6 Zetec - Engine problems

Hi Mechanic(s)

The engine will start first time every time no problem and runs smooth & quiet.
When you rev the car it sounds like there is a rev limiter cutting in at about 3000
revs and it just fluctuates around there and seems to get worse as the engine gets
up to running temperature.

Any advice?

I have got a P Reg 16 valve zetec engine escort 1.6 I am having the same problem, it starts first time on the coldest of mornings but when I set off up the street and brake at the junction it just cuts out. It will start again more often than not no probs but occasionally when I turn it over it is relly struggling. This has been doing my haed in for ages ive had it on diagnostics but it still runs bad.
It had a new hose fitted on the engine and the temperature switch for the engine as well and was fine for about a month noticed now that temperature gauge goes up further than normal not at the top yet but how long will it be before it overheats.
If anyone out there has any idea please tell me patience wearing thin
