Hi - Yesterday, my Peugeot 306 was slipping out of fifth gear pretty frequently as I went along. I got to about a mile from home when it suddenly starting making a very loud metallic clattering sound. I puller her over and turned her off. At the moment, if I turn the car on it immediately makes the same noise if in neutral. If I depress the clutch, the noise disappears - I can then select gear without the noise re-appearing, however, if I try and move off and disengage the clutch, the noise returns. Does this sound familiar to anyone - is is a clutch problem, a gearbox problem, throw-out bearing? Thanks in advance.
