My Vectra has developed a fault and Ive no idea where to start to look for the problem. The problem is basically power loss, if I try to pull away fast its a delayed reaction followed by some kangarooing, although it will still do the same speeds as previous just takes time to get there. Starting is ok and idle speed is ok, oh and the other noticable thing is it seams to be swallowing the petrol as soon as I put it in !! - Although this could be due to me having to floor the pedal every time I need it to move.
The only thing Ive done recently was put an additive in the petrol, due to it failing test on emisions. My local autoparts shop reccomended the additive as the best thing since sliced bread, gets 99.99% through their test I was told. I have to admit the guy was right - It Passed, although wether it related or not or wether its just coincidence Ive had this running problem ever since I put the additive in. Ive had the plugs out and noticed they were covered in black soot like deposits, obvioulsy I cleaned them up and put them back although it made no difference.
Can anyone please offer any help as Ive read many of these forum pages and many people say they have had similar problems and took their cars to the dealers then paid excessive amounts of money and still have the original problem.
PS I know it sounds as if it could be related to the airflow meter although the 1.6 doesnt have one.
