I have recently been looking for a car for my father who has lower back problems and needs a vehicle that is quite high up with good seating. He only had around 5 grand to spend, but I was hopeful that I would be able to find him a suitable car. We eventually settled on a Hyundai Matrix as it is high up and has lumber support which fitted the bill perfectly. Going around the local dealers we discovered that a 01 51 plate (which he desired) was going to be around £6.500 - £7000 which was just too expensive.
During my web searching for the car I stumbled across a website in production that claims to offer cars direct from the trade. www.1to3trade.com (http://www.1to3trade.com) I emailed them and they managed to find my father a 01 51 Matrix for £4.750. They claim to not make any profit on the vehicle, only charging a fee like an estate agent. It got me thinking, when you buy a house there isn't two prices, one for trade and one for the public. They are almost like automotive agents, instead of estate agents. My father was over the moon as he has the car he wants.
The downside of the system was that I couldn't actually "see" the car as it was direct from the trade, it was literally on a forecourt somewhere with £6.500 splashed across the window. They did email me pictures though with a very detailed description of the car, which was spot on. I didn’t even realize that dealers sell cars to each other at this much, much cheaper price. It is like you pay through the nose to sit in the air conditioned fancy showroom and have a free coffee, free my elbow! You pay for it alright. I think that their system will work better with newer cars as there is less likelihood of there being major problems with the vehicle when you receive it.
There site is still in production, but if you send an email to any of the contacts, they almost guarantee to find you any car cheaper than "retail" money as they call it. www.1to3trade.com
My dad is still pleased.
