View Full Version : Have you been contacted by people overseas offering to buy

There is a scam involving people from overseas targeting car owners with a view to shipping it across to their country. You will lose out on this, if you get someone contact you just ignore it. You have to ask why would they want to buy my car and pay for the shipping too! Here are details of what happened to one car owner
I am writing this letter to all webmasters who are hosting online classifieds for cars, boats, etc. I was the victim of a Nigerian scam where I listed a classic car for sale on one of these types of sites. And I was approached by several different international buyers (probably all the same guy). Offering to buy my car for my asking price. They would take care of shipping of course. They sent me a cashiers check for the car plus the cost of shipping. The check was drafted from a wells fargo bank in the US. They have you wire the balance to a "shipper". The cashiers check will turn out to be a phony even though the bank verifies it while you are standing at the counter. You think you get your money, and you send the funds for shipping. A few days later I had to pay the bank back $4000.00.
Please add a notice or a warning to your sellers. NOT TO SELL INTERNATIONAL AT ALL!. ESPECIALLY TO NIGERIA These people have counter-parts working in the UK and around the world. It is a very elaborate scam. And it will trap even honest intelligent people just trying to sell a car. reply to me for more details. I am trying to make people aware so that they are not victimized by these financial terrorist. Awareness is the only protection. Please reply and let me know that you have read this. It might make me feel better about the whole thing. Thanks

Having placed a car advertisement onto various sites, within hours I have received telephone calls from overseas.
The caller has stated that I have (apparently) the same bank account and they have been informed that I would be willing to invest money into some form of financial concern.
Obviously confused, I have asked the caller how they have obtained the telephone number? I am told that it is probable that a bank or credit card company have forwarded my details? I don't think so, this would contravene data protection legislation!!
More like someone is accessing car ads for contact details or the web site itself has forwarded information.
Again this is a scam, do not fall for it, hang up....

There seems no end to the desperate measures these people will take to try to scam people! You were right to be suspicious = but just think how many others will fall for it?

I was nearly taken in with this exact scam, but instead I waited for the cheque to actually clear. Menwhile this guy, calling himself Daniel Sylvestre, kept on calling me and hassling me me for the money trying to make me feel guilty. The more he phoned, the more suspicious I became. Eventually the bank took out what they had put in and I told Daniel this, I have not heard from him since. I think all the people who were victims or near victims should gather all of the email addresses together and help catch this toe rag who has done this.

Hello,
I just came across the advert of your vehicle on the web and could not help but be interested in it.
I will want the photos sent to me via e mail so I can verify the present condition by myself.
I will also want a discount on the vehicle because I will handle the freight/shipping of the vehicle down to West Africa where it will be resold.
I look forward to your soonest response.

-----------------------------
WARNING SCAM ALERT.... DO NOT sell or negotiate selling your car with
anyone from overseas!
There is a scam going around, with certain countries (mainly Nigeria)
expressing an urgent need to buy your car. They want to send you a
check/cheque, if you agree they send you a cheque for more than the amount.
In the USA they will express clear the cheque, you then wire the money over
the price of the car to his shipping agent, who will supposedly come to
pick the car up & ship back.
The cheque is fake & bounces you are then in debt to the bank.
Deal only with people in your country that actually come to see the car.
Ask yourself the simple question - why when there are so many cars all over
the world would someone want to buy your car and then add ££££s to ship it
overseas? - crazy this may be but people are getting stung to the tune of a
few grand!
Please be warned is all I can say
For your interest see http://www.usedcarmart.co.uk/forum/viewforum.php?f=15
P.S If you do think someone is genuine but wants to pay by cheque make sure
it clears, do not wire them money - send them a cheque!

i recently had an e-mail from someone in ireland wishing to purchase my car, he told me he was currently in the uk. He asked for more information and pictures, i sent these back via e-mail and lo and behold the following day received an e-mail back saying he had to rush to the usa because his daughter was in an accitdent but someone in the uk owed him money and would send me a check, could i forward the rest to the shipping agent etc;. i replied to him that the car was cheap anyway, i wanted a quick sale so i wouldn't get involved in lengthy money transactions.
beware not just from nigeria!!!! :)

purchasing the CAR from you. But since i am not presently In Ireland i have
instructed a business partner in U.K who is owing me £2700 to issue you a check

to

I though this too good to be true and had a good look around on the web. It was actualy quite difficult to find anything similar, but thank God i did, i definitly wont be falling for this.

I got caught out  It was the exact email that you have above!
I now owe my bank £4500. I have no way now of obtaining the money and the bank have frozen my accounts and threatening to put me into an unauthorised overdraft for which I will pay daily charges.
I can't believe this has happened it has ruined me
I have contacted the Financial Ombudsman but they tell me the bank is perfectly within its rights to call in the debt.
If you know of any info that may assisst me please contact me at sales@gtinter.com

I am being contacted by a Kevin Spain of PrettyPet@hotmail8008.com. He has offered me similar terms. Cheque to be given to me upon his shipper collecting the car. For some reason I have to send him a balance of monies once car has been received. I am selling my car for £4,800 - offered it to him for £4,650 and he has agreed to pay £5,700!!! Spelling in email crap, very bad grammar and english and therefor took it upon myself to email him back to tell him that I knew of his scam and was on to him.
Hopefully I won't hear from him again! I only posted my advert on 12th Aug - within 5 mins I got his reply so do take care everyone as they are out there!!!

 What ever you do, make sure you do not send your email address to anyone, follow the rules of the ad site. We got a reply to our ad and followed the ad site recommendations. On the reply, I stupidly gave them contact phone numbers. The reply was from ashleyox2000@yahoo.co.uk
and they called us on our mobile with an internet call from AT&T. They offered $10,000 for a $4500 car with instructions to send money to an agent just like the other messages above. Dont be stupid like I was. I spammed the email, but would not have had the scam if I would follow the ad site instructions. Thanks to this site, I knew to be aware of the scam, Thank you!

They have also attempted to buy my Lotus using the same ploy, why can't all these web sites have a brief description of the scam as a header, people would then be more wary of these illiterate buffoons, at least it would make them stop and think before handing over any money.

Same scam still going on - now MarkJohn1935@yahoo.co.uk, and reportedly being purchased in the Netherlands and just asking for bank details - but sounds very similar. Notes seem to be improving (slightly) in their English :
Dear Sir,
I run a procurement outfit in Europe,so I do a lot of travelling,I will be
coming to the United Kingdom but that will be later on.I am always very
busy as my schedule is very tight so I will like you to exercise some
patience with me as regards this transaction.I have a client in Holland
interested in your (89 (G) VW Corrado 16v )for( 3000pounds ).He will be
handling ******** and all other details. If you are okay with the mode of
payment, provide your banking details,so that I can instruct my client to
send the funds via wire transfer to your account.Details such as:
1)NAME AND ADDRESS OF BANK.
2)ROUTING NUMBER.
3)ACCOUNT NUMBER.
4)NAME OF BENEFICIARY OR ACCOUNT HOLDER.
5)BANK PHONE NUMBER.
6)PERSONAL PHONE NUMBER
Let me know as soon as possible,so that I can get in touch with my client
Thanks.
Mark.
Is there nothing to do to teach these bastards a lesson?

you're just about to be scammed!
Do not send this guy a penny!
Tell him the deal is off, and any cheque you receive will be handed to the police for investigation - including fingerprint and other forensic tests!

it's me again lorracash, and guess what, I've had two more of these scam emails, is there no one out there to stop these twits, or do we have to put up with their awful or is that hopeful intention to get money out of us with these scams, the recent one I've had is from a so called Bishop, who has a 'Bishop' here in England willing to collect the item advertised. There has to be someone out there with a good idea to get back at these idiots, or shall we invite all these people over and have a good old punch up once and for all.
any ideas will be welcome

I placed an ad on craigslist and was emailed backby a guy from Holland. I told him everything about my car, its flaws and its condition. He seemed interested and wrote me this email, I don't know what to make of it, should I continue the transaction or not? I have dealt with selling overseas.
Email to Blueorbital:
Thanks for the info,i think im satisfied.
Like i said earlier i am based in the netherland(holland).there
won't be any probs about the shipment, after payment ,the pick up will be made at your place.
i will make arrangements with the prepaid shipping company.
As regards payment,this is what i am going to do;
I have a client in the US who is owing me US$8,850, i
would instruct him to make out a money order/certified
check to you in that amount and as soon as it clears
your bank. you can now deduct your money from it and send me my
balance,i will
using use part of the money to pay for the shipping and other
expenses .you will
then send my balance by via western union money transfer.Although the
value of the check is more than the asking price but i think i should be able to trust you with my balance.
The reason why i am doing this is that it would take
a check sent from over here 21days to clear
over there, whereas a check sent from the US would
clear tops within 48hrs.
So i would like you to deduct the western union
charges from my balance. So if my terms are acceptable
to you,i would like you to give me your full
name, address and phone number so that i can instruct
my client to make out the check to you.
Pls get back to me as soon as you get this mail so
that we can round things up in a timely fashion..i will be trusting
you in
this business transaction.
Thanks ,
regards
What do you guys think? Pls send me an email at Blueorbital83@yahoo.com or message me via AIM: blueorbital83, Thanks.

I would advise you to just stay away from them. You don't want to get involved, beleive me.
Most of these West African countries use left wheel drives anyway. What they would want to do with UK cars beats me. They don't want the car, they are after your money.
I'm a Nigerian, but seeing these disgusting and pathetic mails almost makes you ashamed to be called one

You are right it is the money they are after! It is sad that these individuals spoil things for the honest people living out there. Your point about the fact they drive left hand drive is spot on, need to add this to the warning.

Hi There,
My name is Jack Apon from Holland.
When searching the internet for a Morris Traveller i found your site.
When i read these scam stories it makes you sick, but to advise not to deal with people outside UK isn't fair i think.
Like i said looking for a traveller and there are not many around in Holland so i have to look in the UK.
And i want to assure you if i would find the car i like to buy i would take a plane or ferrie and collect the car myself and pay for it cash.
I just thought i let you know.
All the best and be carefull out there
Regards

I just agreed to ship my car to england for somebody in Trinadad. Of course, I still have my car and no check has arrived. I emailed him telling him that I would let his shipper pick it up after my bank's 30 day non-negotiable check clearing period has passed with his check. Probably wont hear back.

Just to let you guys know, it seems that the scam does not only involve cars. I just sold a laptop on ebay and got three suspicious emails from people in foreign countries about it (keep in mind the starting bid was $700, and the buy-it-now price was $1000).

Will that be ok if the shipping address will be mine (confirmed) when I send paypal payment but you will ship to him to Ukraine directly? Please respond asap so that we will have a great deal! Have a nice day!!!

Thanks

Similar experience - badly composed e-mail looking to buy my Merc for shipping to a buyer in Canada; (like they don't have 2nd hand Mercs in Canada?).
After two or three follow up messages I challenged the sender about the "nonsense" of what he was proposing. The reply was abusive - confirming the scam element or at least unsavoury nature of the sender.
Whatever - thats the point you duck-out.
I contacted "The Yard" who said that each Police area has an e-crime unit and to send the e-mails to them.
Bottom line? If you smell something bad - there'll be something rotten at the end of it.
Keep well away from these B@£t@rd$

I to have been caught out with this scam, but thankfully I refused to hand over any money until the cheque had cleared. I originally advertised my car on the auto4you web site and within hours had a reply wanting to buy it. I was unaware of the scam going on, anyway the person said his client would be sending the cheque and we were to pay the shipping company, after 2 weeks the cheque hadn't arrived so I told him I was offering it to someone else. They also wanted their client to send the cheque, but again after 2 weeks no cheque arrived. By now I was desperate to get the car sold so I offered it to a third person, but the first two e-mailed me saying they were desperate for the car, so I said that the first cheque to arrived would get the car. As it happened all 3 cheques arrived on the same day. As the last person I offered the car to was the quickest to get the cheque to me I said he could have the car. The other 2 asked if I could still cash the cheque and send the money by Western Union Money Transfer, being the sort of person who trusts people I said no problem. They kept e-mailing asking me to send them the cash, but I said I wouldn't send anything until the cheques had cleared, as it turned out these 2 cheques were stolen. As for the person who was buying the car, the funds cleared, but because of work commitments I couldn't send the money there and then so I said I would do it as soon as I got home the next day. When I phoned my bank to arrange the transfer I discovered that the funds had been withdrawn from my account the cheque had been stopped. I am ever so glad I hadn't got round to doing the transfer in the morning, and I certainly won't trust anyone wanting to send me a cheque cash only from now on.
The names/e-mail address were:
Wolfsam21@Myway.com
Valenta_bailey@yahoo.com
jimsimmon_inc@yahoo.co.uk
Jim Simmon also wanted me to transfer £1,000 to his grandfather Martins Collins, 128b Green Road, Victoria Garden City, Lagos, Nigeria, 23401. He claimed he had put a £1,000 deposit down with the shipping company and the confirmed that he had but I think they have been in on the scam as well they or at least he was Johson Olumid, 23/24 Marc Garden, Oba Akran Avenue, Lagos Nigeria, 23401 - e-mail shippinglink@india.com.
I certainly won't be fooled by this again, its cash or nothing.

Hi dmddonaldson
Interesting post, I am glad you never lost money on this. Ithink the lesson learned is DO NOT TRUST ANYONE ONLINE!
Are you in the uk? If so how long was the cheque that cleared in your bank for? Just curious as I am wondering if you express clear a cheque and its given the ok, can it still be withdrawn by the person who sent the cheque, and if so after how long?

I can smell these a mile off now. They all have a Trade mark when concocting these stories. Never get involved. If it seems too good to be true - it is!
They play on your sense of desperation and maybe 'greed' - more money than your car is worth??
I send emails back stating:-
1. what is your landline tel number?
2. what is your real address?
3. who is your local agent?
4. why are you wanting to buy a car you haven't even named?
5. why do all you scammers use the same words?
6. if you don't reply within 4 hours I'll send your details to the Fraud Office at Scotland Yard.
I've never had an honest reply yet.
Just ignore them or send details to the Fraud Office - who incidentally also NEVER reply!!!
ps - my uncle who was the Head of Security in my country has just deposited 60 million Euro's in the UK and I'd like to share it with all of you lovely people. All you have to do is..........................
Had you going then didn't I? No? Good you're learning. Sell locally or speak to a UK based geezer who wants to see your car first and is NOT eager to part with loads of money. Seller beware.

I recently received an email from a "Freddy Collins" who claimed to be in Wales. It sounded too good to be true, so I checked this forum. I appreciate the information those of you with similar experiences have provided.
Here is the message I received in response to my questions:
"Thanks for your mail. my client reside also in wales. she is interested and ready to make payment immediately. You the seller has no business with the shippment of the vehicle. All that is required of you is the acceptance of both parties terms of transaction.
"I have concluded with my client and he has instructed me to carry on with the transaction, he said that I should inform you that payment will get to you in a cashier's check of $15,000 which is a refund payment of a cancelled order earlier made by my client.
"Due to company policy this check has to be made out in this amount to you , because company policy only allows a refund payment on one cashier's check, so you are required to deduct cost of your car $8,500 when payment gets to you and refund balance $6,500 to my customer via western union money transfer or money gram transfer for him to be able to offset shipping charges.
"After payment has reached you and balance sent back to him, our agent will come for the pick up and taste drive, after which to a prepaid shipper to be shipped to my customer, while title papers and other necessary documents will be sent by you via fedex courier to my customer.
"Please Confirm this and ! provide full name, address and phone number for check payment to be delivered to you via courier serivce.
Thank you.

here's more of Scott Williams' e-mail to me about my car::
Hi Seth,
Thanks for your quick response. I am interested and
would be willing to buy it at that price for $4,500 I am located
in England and have an International shipping agent
that will come pick the 1994 Honda Civic DX Automatic up from your house and
ship to me.
I will arrange for payment by sending your full name
and address to my client in the States who is owing me
the amount of $7,500 to issue you a official check for
this amount. which is a refund for a cancelled order I
placed with him, and being a refund the amount can only
be written on a single check. I know it is more than
the 1994 Honda Civic DX Automatic price but after getting the official check,
I need you to cash it and deduct cost of the 1994 Honda Civic DX Automatic,
then do me a favour of wiring the remaining balance
to my International shipper via western union. You will
also deduct $200 for running around and for wiring back
the difference. After this is done, he will then pick
the 1994 Honda Civic DX Automatic up from your residence and ship to me.
So, confirm this and send your full name and address
including phone # for mailing the check payment to you
as soon as possible.
Waiting for your urgent reply,
Kind regards,
Scott.

Hi,
Having got my Z3 advertised on several sites I have been bombarded with emails from SCAMMERS. Some sound extremely convincing and too good to be true. I have found the best way to deal with these people, especially if you are not sure whether or not the enquiry is genuine, is to put a note on the bottom of your reply email saying something along the lines of:
SCAMMERS BEWARE:
I will not accept company cheques or personal cheques that are in any other name but your own. Nor will I accept any amount greter than that of the agreed price of the car. I will not release the car until the agreed amount has been paid in full- cheques must clear!
You, the purchaser are responsible for ALL SHIPPING ARRANGEMENTS and for PAYMENT of shipping. I will not be responsible for the transferring of funds to any third party (SHIPPING AGENTS) this is your responsability.
If I have any reason to doubt that this sale is NOT GENUINE or is part of a SCAM I will not continue with the sale of (whatever you are selling). I will notify the police if I have reason to suspect that this is a SCAM.
Do not waste my time and I will not waste yours!
People who are genuinely interested will reply back to you and those that are part of a scam will literaly disappear.

I think I almost got caught twice, in the last couple of weeks. Fortunately, I had read this first! The first was an email saying he was coming to the UK for a short visit and would spend £8000 on my car..more than the cost of my car at £5000. Asked if I had anymore like it. I told him that his 'visit' may be too short because I wouldn't let my car go unless funds were cleared. Didn't get any more emails. The other was a phone call from a guy called Kenneth Edwards. He had an 'african' accent and said he was coming from London (I live in Devon) to buy my car at the weekend, full price..he had never seen it and didnt ask anything about it. I told him the same, my car goes nowhere until funds are cleared. Didnt hear from him again. Thanks for putting out this info, or I may have been scammed! Allan.

im Selling my car, I have it on autotrader.com
anywho, this guy keeps emailing me about IT , read these emails and tell em if u think this dude is trying to scam me?
email #1:
My client is very interested in your vehicle in the ad.and he is willing to pay $22,400
kindly get back to me if it is still available.thanks
email #2:
Stefan,
Thanks for the mail, kindly send some down loaded pictures of the car for my client's proper viewing asap so that we will talk on the terms of payment. Also state your last asking price for the vehicle.
Have a nice day.
email #3:
Thanks for the pixs, they have been forwarded to my
client for proper viewing and he is willing to pay $22,500 for your car. However, you have to give us
sometime to contact our client on phone, we have been
trying his line for sometime now i believe is switched
off, The amount in the check he deposited for the
order is bigger than what should be paid to you,
though it's meant for the total expenses which
includes the purchase , the pick up and the shipping
bills. so we want to know if we shall carry on with
that or if he will make arragement for another check
ASAP. he is presently in saudi arabia . just hang on ,
i will get back to you as soon as i conclude issues
with him.
Acknowledge and get back if suitable with you .
Thanks and Reamin Blessed,
email#4:
Stefan,
My client has finally accepted your price,he hopes the engine is
serviced and oil changed too .He cant wait to see the car parked in his
garage.
However,My client made out a certified cashiers check of ($30,000) before
he travelled to japan on a business trip, for a previous car and its
shipment charges etc,but it was unfortunately sold. The amount on the check
he deposited for the car is bigger than what should be paid to you
now, so the check is now meant for the total expenses which includes the
purchase of your car,the pick up of the car from its present location
and the shipping charges/other necessary shipping arrangements.
However he has instructed us to carry on with this transaction. So you're
required to deduct the cost of your car ($22,500) and send the balance
of ($7,500) to my client via western union money transfer to enable him
offsett shipping charges/arrangements.once the transaction is concluded,My
agent will be coming for the pick up of the car from its present
location, on an open vehicle and then drive to a pre paid shipper for
shipment, and also conclude other necessary shipping arrangements.so yo
u dont have to bother yourself about the pick up and shipping
arrangements, while title papers and other necessary documets will be sent by
you via fedex courier to my customer.
Please Confirm this and provide name, address and phone
number for check payment to be delivered to you via
fedex courier .
Thanks and Remain Blessed,
what the hell is this all about? i mean if he sends me a check and all that'll be sweet , but after reading the about all the fraud that goes on and fake cert checks im nervous.

I too have had several enquiries from abroad. I thought at first all my Chrismases had come at once when I was offered the full asking price and he would send me the shipping cost as well. I was suspicious in a way so got it checked out by our Police Liaison officer, who confirmed it was a scam and how it worked. I attach the equiries I have had.
1. sent by a Mathin. T mac_teems001@yahoo.com
Hello,
I am very much intrested in buying the car and the price is okay by me for 2100pounds i'm ready to pay you with a certified cheque which will include the shippment cost and some other bills. And the Cheque will be 5000 pounds. When you do receive the payment you deduct the money of your car which you want to sell and send the remain balance to my shippers inorder for them to come to the state for the picking up.if you are okay with the arrangement i will like you to send me your:
Name:...........which the cheque is to be written
Address:..........where the cheque is to be send to
Mobile phone #:.......for easier communication
When you send me the following I will issue you the cheque. And as soon as possible you do receive the cheque contact me via e-mail immediately inorder for further information.Hope to hear from you very soon.
Regards.
2. My reply
Thank you for your e-mail, though I am curious of your intentions.
Why would you want to send me £5,000? I would prefer just the cost of the car, which is £2,195.
Where is the car being shipped to?
Please supply your telephone number so that we can discuss the arrangements. I am obviously dubious of dealing with overseas, though I have not ruled it out.
Can you tell me where you saw the advert as it is listed in many places?
Thank You

Hey guys/gals..I got nailed to. I'm selling a 2 place ultralight airplane. I put it on an online classifieds site for aircraft, and in only a few days emails were pouring in from people who stated being from all over the world. I narrowed it to one person, who then said he is sending a check for $22,100 (twice what I'm asking) and to forward the remaining amount to his shipper. I stumbled upon some of these sites, and now am a bit ticked. I'm glad ya'll have helped me. I wish we could send some crazy american marines over there and bomb there little scam hide out...!!!

Although not a car, a posted a drum set for sale online and received e-mails from several people, but I settled on Tolu Williams...He instructed that his client in the US owed him 5,000 and would send me a cashiers check from Bank of America for 5,500 and I would wire him the balance and he would negotiate with his shipper. He later e-mailed and said his client sent him the check to avoid problems with the mail system??? I received the check today and Bank of America caught it before handing over the dough. Upon closer inspection, the hand writing on the check (supposedly from his client in the US) and his writing on the envelope from Europe are exactly the same. I'm glad I didn't just go in 5 grand.
Is there anything that can be done about this?
The email he was using for this was equip_mart@yahoo.com
I also saw in a previous post that Tolu Williams had corresponded with someone else with the e-mail transbike_ltd@yahoo.com (i think thats right).

Within a day of posting my car to CarsDirect.com and BargainNews.com, I received "the bait." Follow the exchange below, if you really need to read ANOTHER same-old same-old.
I'd heard of similar scams, but I was hoping this one was legit. Of course it sounded too good to be true, but I figured I'd play along until it got too dodgey.
And now it has.
I entered 'used car buyer scam money gram' into Google and found your site immediately, thank God. I will not be taking any money orders THIS week, gratefully.
HOWEVER: after reading through this discussion, I have yet to see any advice on how to catch these scammers. I am also somewhat peeved that CarsDirect has no warning in their Help section about this type of scam. Is there anything to be done? I'm thinking about enlisting my state's Attorney General and proposing to help participate in a sting operation.
Good luck to all; thank you for your vigilance.

I couldn't find any Pita Motors in Dublin over the net, but it sounded OK so far... I jacked the price up a little to see if that would deter them.
Greetings Pita,
If I may ask, where did you find the listing for my Subaru? I have six recent pictures on CarsDirect.com, and one on BargainNews.com. Attached are two more recent pictures; I hope they will suffice. If your client requires any more, I will be happy to supply.
Accident history:

Owner history:

Due to the high level of interest in my vehicle, and because Pita Motors represents an international order (with attendant levels of paperwork), I have raised my asking price to 12,750 USD. To purchase the car, I will need one half of the amount up front, to pay off the lienholder and regain the title. As soon as I have the title in hand (approx. two weeks) I will request the second half of the amount. When that amount clears, I will release the car and title to your agent here in the States, or deliver to either New York, Boston, or some point in between.
These are my terms. I look forward to hearing from you. In particular, I am open to ideas on how to exchange payments in a verifiable manner.
Sincerely,
Nik
GREETINGS...
THANKS FOR YOUR MAIL AND UPDATE.THE PICS ARE WONDERFUL AND I HAVE FOWARDED THEM TO MY CLIENT FOR EVALUATION.
I WILL GET BACK TO YOU AS SOON AS I FINISH DISCUSSING WITH MY CLIENT.

OK, sounds good. But I don't want to wait by the phone for too long...
Pita,
Please discuss with your client; however, if I do not hear from you by end-of-business EST Wednesday, I will consider your interest closed. As I said, I have other buyers on the line.
Have a good evening, and God bless the Irish.
Sincerely,
Nik Charov
Greetings..Nik
I am very happy to tell you that we have concluded with our client and he has instructed me to carry on with the transaction .He proposed this payment method. He said that I should inform you that the payment will get to you in a cashier check of ($19,640) which is a refund payment of a cancelled order earlier made by my client.
Due to company policy, this check has to be made out in this amount to you, because company policy only allows a refund payment on one cashier check, so you are required to deduct cost of your VEHICLE [($12,750 usd. )] when the payment gets to you and refund balance [ $6,890 usd] to my customer's shipping agent at CANADA VIA INTERNATIONAL MONEY GRAM TRANSFER, for the shipping agent to be able to offset shipping charges.
After payment has reached you and balance sent back to his shipping agent - the shipper will contact the PICKUP AGENT who will come for the pickup of the vehicle and drive straight to the shipper to be shipped to my customer, while title papers and other necessary documents will be sent by you via FedEx courier to my customer.
ATTENTION: MY CLIENT INSTRUCTED THAT THE PICKUP AGENT WILL BE COMING OVER TO YOUR AREA OF LOCATION WITH SOME ONE WHO IS GOING TO TEST DRIVE THE VEHICLE AND CHECK THE RECENT CONDITION OF THE VEHICLE.THAT YOUR ARE TO HELP THEM WHEN THEY ARRIVE..
NOTE: YOU ARE EXPECTED TO DEDUCT THE TRANSFER CHARGES FROM THE REMAINING BALANCE YOU ARE TO SEND TO THE SHIPPER.
Pls confirm this whole arrangement and provide your payment information so that payment will be delivered to you via FedEx courier immediately..
PAYMENT INFORMATION:
(1).LEGAL NAME ( IN FULL)
(2).ADDRESS ..
(3) PHONE NUMBER..

I'M RICH! But maybe I should do a little research first... I mean, who sends MORE than the price of the car, for no reason? Hmmmm.
Thank you, usedcarmart.co.uk Forum.
I will be preparing my final reply to "Pita" shortly, as soon as I hear from the authorities about an appropriate next step.

I have been dealing with a guy called Jerry Robinson (jerryrobinsonco@yahoo.com) who said that he's based in holland but has a clienrt in the uk who wants to buy my car and ship it to Germany. He offered me £4500 even though my car was only £2700 on ebay and that I would need to wire transfer £1800 after receiving the cheque. I stupidly agreed to the price, gave him my address & phone number and am waiting now for the cheque to arrive. I was on the phone explaining everything to my parents back home and luckily my sister overheard the conversation and had seen something on tv about the scam. I then found this site and boy am I glad she overheard!!
I presume that the cheque will arrive any day now but what do I do with it? Should I just not pay it in or should I take it to the police. I have already emailed him back to say that I know about the scam. It makes me so mad that people can do this - there will be so many that weren't as lucky as the people on this forum.
I hope something is done and done quickly!

Well, I've got something to add to all of this. I put my motorcycle on e-bay and got a response from none other than...Nigeria.
This guy said that he was wanting to buy it for a client of his and that he had been in the used car business for 13 years....blah...blah...blah.
He said that he would send a $25,000 cashier's check, but needed me to wire $500 immediately to his "shipper". Funny though, his wiring information for the "shipper" had his name on it. I e-mailed him back and asked him why I was sending him $500 when I am the seller...and why is he sending me $5,000 for shipping....where exactly is this shipping company...the US or Africa??? It's been a while and I haven't heard anything back...what a shock. This really infuriates me that these "people" can do this.

Got this response to my advert on 911uk.com
Hello,
I forwarded the pictures to my client for evaluation and confirmation.Due to time constraint on the fact that we are running short of time , i am delighted to tell you that my client has commended your 1997 PORSCHE and he has instructed me to carry on with this transaction, he also instructed me to inform you that payment will get to you in a Cheque of £40,200 . Due to company policy this check has to be made out in this amount to you ,because company policy only allows a payment on one cheque. So you are required to deduct the cost of your PORSCHE £34,500 when payment gets to you and refund balance £5700. euro to the shipper for him to be able to offset shipping & tax charges, and other cosmetic repair costs. After payment has reached you and balance sent to shipper, the shipper's agent will come for inspection, pick up (of the 1997 PORSCHE & signing of title papers), some cosmetic touches and drive to a prepaid shipper to be shipped to my customer. Confirm this and forward your Names, Address and Phone number for payment to be made to you as soon as possible.
Best regards to you and your family.
To which my response was
James,
Before we proceed I feel there are some important points about the car that I should inform you about.
This car was a one off special order and was made to my specific requirements. In addition to the standard high specification found on the Porsche Carrera C4S it has had the following performance components fitted at the factory:
Extra large knocking big ends fitted
Mega tapping valves
Super cracked exhaust manifold
Hi Performance
HKS low compression water to oil intercooler via a crack device
Rumble wheel bearings fitted all round
Fooked race spec. brake pads and discs
low profile flat tyres
one off borked little end bearings
unique lacquer peeled paint
6 speed manual gearbox with automatic neutral jumping
super worn clutch and worn lighter flywheel
cross drilled & cracked discs all round
super clear windows with hi-visibility transparent glass
Also as one of the founding members of the Porsche Racing International Club Krew I couldn't possibly let the car go to a non member. So before we can proceed I will need some details from your client so I can process their membership immediately. The details I require are:
Name of Owner
Email Address
Also for identification purposes I will need a photograph sent through email with the client holding a card or piece of paper with the word BOON written on it. This part is vital to ensure a smooth transaction.
As soon as I receive membership information I will take the car off the market and we can hopefully proceed with the sale.
Kind Regards
Paul Monaghan

Just a thought, but maybe anyone who is approached by the scammers could tell them that they have a friend in Nigeria, Sth. Afric etc who is flying back in one weeks time and would be happy to come and collect the cheque on your behalf. If they give an address, this could be passed on to police etc. Worth a try don't you think???? ;)

Hello,
Thanks so much for your fast response... The Cahiers Check/Money Orders that will be issued will include the money for the sales of your item + the shipping cost and my commission like i said in my earlier mail .I would like to restate clearly that this item will be shipped to Africa and I have a shipping agent who would take good care of this.
You are required to cash the drafts you will recieve and deduct the funds for the sales of your item and have the excess funds sent to the shipper via Western Union Money Transfer at one of their outlets around you in order to schedule the pick up of the item.
All neccesary transfer papers will be dully signed by the shipper on behalf of my client when the shipping agents comes for the pick up of the item.
I will be willing to entertain more of your questions that might arise, please provide your CONTACT NAME,ADDRESS AND PHONE NUMBER so that I can have it
forwarded to my client for immediate payment issuance.
Many Thanks
Cheers
So I had him entertain why he thought id fall for that?.

A good thing to do is say you need the payment by courier, use a works address (or police station etc) this way you cost them money. Then when the cheque arrives say the car has been stolen, and that you'll return the cheque. Hey presto a wasted journey for mr scammer!

Hello,
I saw your vehicle on the internet, i am interested in purchasing it, but first i'd like to know the following things, if its diesel or petrol, and the mileage, and also if it has been involved in any accidents in the past, and other features notmentioned in the ad. In your mail, please get back to me with the recent picture and let me also know your last asking price you'll sell for.

......to which I replied with some of the car details.....
HELLO
Thanks for your mail, as for the price of £22,000 i find it quite reasonable, and i'll have my client to go for it, but since i wouldn't be able to come over myself, as i am tied down now with other negotiations, i'll have my client issue you a cheque for £26,000 this will cover the shipping expenses and my agents fee and his travelling expenses, to come over and pick up the car for shipping.I don't mind the cheque having to get cleared by the bank before we get the car, but i want to know if i can trust you on sending the remaining balance to my agent through Western union Money Transfer as soon as the cheque is cashed. To start with the procurement of the cheque, i'll need the following information from you: Your full address street,city/town,state,Country andand post code), your phone number and full name to be written on the cheque/draft. Thanks again and God Bless i will be looking forward to hearing from you soon.

Goodday ,
How are you doing today, I have accepted to pay the stipulated price immediately with a bankers draft , just that the draft, is going to be in an amount larger than the cost of the car.
Reason being that it is a refund payment to me and the Creditor issuing the check has the policy not to issue more than one check to a refund payment, which means that the check is going to carry the whole amount em-block for the sales and shipping of the car from your country to Ireland.
The check that will be sent to is £7,300 and you would have to deduct the cost of your car £3,750 from it immediately you cash it and send the balance £3,550 via wire transfer (MoneyGram) to offset the shipping charges. So, I am entrusting you to handle this funds with honesty, care and utmost confidentiality.
You are required to send Name, which should be on the check, the address where the check is going to be sent and your contact telephone numbers for fast communication. On receipt of this information, the check will be sent to you. After you send the balance, the shipper will be paid and they will come and pick up the car immediately.
Ask question where you are not cleared. I would be there to explain further. You can reach me via mail.
Looking forward to rounding up this transaction as soon as possible.
Thanks and have a wonderful day.
Collins.

There is a scam involving people from overseas targeting car owners with a view to shipping it across to their country. You will lose out on this, if you get someone contact you just ignore it. You have to ask why would they want to buy my car and pay for the shipping too! Here are details of what happened to one car owner
Hi,
I am selling my Taurus Station Wagon for $1000
A person from the UK wants to buy it with a money order and have it shipped there...he saw it in the paper and online.
How do I know if this is a scam or not?
What papers do I need to fill out to sell it to him and how should I accept payment so I don't get burnt?..I am in Maryland.
Do I just fill in the title, bill of sale, collect the money and turn in the plates or avoid altogether?
Please advise ASAP
Thanks

If it was a $50,000 car he may be interested but for $1000 it's highly unlikely he'd go to that expense and pain of shipping a LHD car to the UK. He'll probably ask for your bank details to transfer the money (as a lot of scams highlighted on this forum generally do!)

Hi, Really need some advice here, I Put my car up for Sale it an Audi TT
someone has rang me nothing unusual there, But he say's he from Ireland Colin Crimin. he wants to arrange RAC check on my car which the RAC are coming to see the car to do there checks. we agreed a price 800 less then advertised, I am unsure if this is a scam or not he has given me his banks address and sort code which I checked its Bank of Ireland Wilton Cork. and he is agreeing to do a bank transfer for the funds before collecting it. he wants my bank details which I have said I will only give to the bank direct.
Has anyone had this happen can I trust this person ? or is this a possible scam? I just can't see why anyone would come from Ireland to buy a car from the uk?
Any help would be appreciated

I replied sent a cautionary message saying why over £4000 for shipping and got some lovely responses back...I even started looking at alternative cars myself...
messages back and forward until I looked at Western Union and saw a problem in sending over £999 to the shipping agent...after a call or two to shippers and finance houses the possible sale of my beloved car was in doubt.
I emailed back saying send funds for the car only by bank transfer from his account in holland and deal direct with the shipping agent.. to date nothing back at all.....BE CAREFUL

I got an email from someone in Spain wanting to buy my car, he was going to deal with shipping and pay by bankers draft. The fact he was going to pay by bankers draft made him seem like a genuine buyer. I still held off but was still tempted. Your post has helped me avoid being scammed. Thanks for that.

Hi everyone, I've experienced nearly exact scam experience as described here. I was not contacted once, but 3 times from apparently different email addresses.
I think we should proceed to compile a list of IP addresses, found in COMPLETE email headers. (reference: http://www.johnru.com/active-whois/trace-email.html).

Shown in BOLD is the IP address nearest to the sender. It's not precise but it does give a very good geolocial location. This line should be the first IP address you see starting from the bottom of the header.
Please post them here!!! Use http://ip-adress.com/ to find the geological location as well. If you need help, please do not hesitate to PM me.

I'm sick and tired of those scammers, who ruins the standard buy/sell market, I've been exposed to both buy and sell scamming, but nevertheless I never got into a real scaming, loosing a lot of money.
Ok, people, I'm going to try the same trick as i was exposed to myself. Put an advertisement on a sellers website and was contacted by this guy, who call himself dr_allan_robert:
Hello, This is Dr Allan Robert, i am interested in buying your above named (auto) advertised on the internet in Denmark for my daughter as a wedding present and gift, please get back with the following details: 1) is the (car) still available for sale? 2) what is the last price you will accept in U.K pounds after conversion....? 3) email me the city where the (car) is located so i can know how much it will cost me for the shipping.... 4) please email me a recent picture of the (car) if available. Do not worry about the shipping, i will pay for the shipping, i will contact a shipping company that will come to your location for the pick up after payment is made. i just relocated from europe to Philipines to set up a private clinic, i am buying it as a surprise wedding gift for my daughter because she loves things from Denmark. she is getting married in europe soon. please reply soon so that we can proceed with payment arrangements. urgent response will be highly appriciated. regards, Dr Robert.
Lol- this is redicoulus and pretty obvious that it's a scammer, so I replied him with an exact answer that I got from a scammer, when I wanted to sell my car.
The car is still available for sale and also the export papers are ready for the buyer. It was imported from Germany and also manufacture in Germany. The EU certificate of origin is also available. Title of the car is clear and the car was never involved in any car accident. It is located in Sweden and it is 100 % functionality. The car is like new
Let's see whatever he feels about an answer from another scammer :-D.

Well, there's little you can do and you're likely to be only wasting your precious time. Imagine the number of people who will fall for them. They are the winner even if they succeed only once in 10000. Sending email is extremely easy for these guys/girls (let's not be sexist here) and all they have to do is to create a common template and randomly select one to send, providing the name and car of interest. It's probably the same people who send out fishing email about a fund that had no better place to go but you, the "trusted friend", using "too-good-to-be-true" stories and settings.
Seeing that they're all pretty consistent in the location of their email, I don't think they used an IP re-director to erase their tracks. Given the IPs, I think that one day, even if not in the near future, our government may be able to crack them down. Untill then, I think the best that we can do is to continue to provide these IP information to help the authorities should they come to act.
Please read my previous emails concerning how to get the IP addresses of origin and how to lookup the location. It's extremely easy to do especially if you use outlook.
Good luck every1, progress is being made...

i recently accepted a cheque for my passed fathers ford capri of £4000 before sending £2800 back to the buyer for transortation of the car to africa.. im shocked as i now realise ive been scammed. the thing im most concerned about is that i closed my bank account shortly after. my account at the time was a under 18s account as im only 18 now it was the first car i ever sold. i have contacted the police i was just wonderng does anyone know what the bank will do? its been closed for 2 weeks now the reason i closed it was that i had 2 accounts and that bank was closer to go to than my main bank so i cashed it and closed it not knowing that a cheque could actully be returned after its "cleared" and transfered the money to my main account at hsbc. im scared now as ive spent most of the money. and can they actually ask for it back if they cleared it?
thankyou.

I have a man asking to purchase my truck for someone over seas in London...I am SOOOO glad I found this site about fraud tonight. You are a God Send!!! Is there anyway I can help find out who this scammer is? Can I contact someone to help me connect or follow up on this scam!
There is a scam involving people from overseas targeting car owners with a view to shipping it across to their country. You will lose out on this, if you get someone contact you just ignore it. You have to ask why would they want to buy my car and pay for the shipping too! Here are details of what happened to one car owner

Those scammers thought that everybody would be fooled with their emails and stuffs like that. I was really disappointed when I was looking for cars but those scammers tried to offer me something online.
They told me that I should pay them in advance but I was calmed enough to deny their offer when they told me that.
Beware of those scammers.

I went overseas to the UK from France to buy a car, and won't do it again... What you can get buying a Land Rover to Dunsford Land Rovers in Bath is a dead car... Be carefull if you don't want to be scammed ! The frame of my car has been totaly painted with thick black painting to hide damaged area...
Have a nice day ! ;-)
