I have just returned from Flamingoland in Yorkshire. I travelled from
Edinburgh after an assurance by the receptionist at the site that there was
plenty pitches available. On arriving I was told they do not allow Hobby
Caravans on the site any longer on account of several "Pikies" booking in
for two nights then staying for two months. Has anyone else heard of racism
like this from a firm who allegedly receives I believe lottery funding and
support from the Yorkshire tourist board.

Unfortunately, Yorkshire is full of dirty thieving "Pikies", in fact,
I'd go as far as to say that 80%+ of Yorkshire's inhabitants are now
"Pikies".

That's not an uncommon reaction, several caravan sites refuse to allow
Hobby's on - and al for the same reason, Hobby = Tinker.
They're reasonably well made vans (certainly, superior to any British van)
but they do have an image problem that is almost insurmountable.
Almost everything about the Hobby UK set-up screams 'Gypsy - and Tinkers do
form a very large part of any Hobby dealers customer base.
BTW, many caravan dealers refuse to have anything to do with hobby's, as
well - Barons (Darlington) will tell you their own horror story which
involved a Hobby van that they unwisely took in part exchange.
Once word got around, they were visited by hordes of Tinkers (with tribes of
ragged kids) - who didn't actually purchase the caravan, but who did help
themselves to several chassis plates and many other items from Barons stock
of vans.
'Never Again' was their verdict.

One more thing, I know you travelled down from Edinburgh, but are you
actually Scottish?
Yorkshire people ***hate*** the Scots.
Maybe that was the problem?
