Surely, Tinkers and Gypsies are quite different people, ideology and
beliefs? I confess a certain nostalgia for the old time hippies who
'travel' but they, again, are neither Tinkers nor Gypsies.
Isn't there an old rhyme:
my mother said/I never should/play with the Gypsies/in the wood/If I
did/she would say/I would get in/the Family Way -- see I *can* be
politically incorrect :)

I know that and you know that but a lot of people seem to be totally
mystified by the distinction. This ignorance doesn't stop them from forming
an opinion and attempting to formulate laws and regulations on the back of
it.

That's true enough
The danger's real -
But it's not just Innocence they steal
In fact, the theft
Of household goods
Would decline if they stayed in the woods!
