BMW X5 or Lexus RX300?

What are the pro's and con's of each. Topgear says the Lexus has poor 4x4
ability. We live on a slope and in the snow struggle to negotiate the
incline hence the 'need' for a 4x4! Any excuse eh ?

Are either vehicle capable of this need for 4wd or is one better than the
other ? What about running costs and reliabilty and resale values ?

Or for the same money you could get a beautiful Series II Landie and an MGB.
