metallic paint

can anyone please tell me the best way to get rid of the orange peel effect when re-spraying with metallic paint? I have just re-sprayed my front wings and bonnet and want to get them looking realy smooth and shiny, read some reviews and some say use rubbing compound before the clear coat some say dont? I have put on 4 coats but it still looks dull. I want to get this right befor I put on the clear coat... any advice would help... thanks :) :)

The base-coat will stay dull until you put the topcoat on and as you have let the base-coat dry you will need to scotchbrite the base-coat or the topcoat will fall off over time.
