We bought a proton satria GTI from a trader that was getting a few of these in,
The main reason for getting the new vehicles was i had a vauxhall corsa on finance and wanted to sell it as i didnt drive it as often as i thought i would.
So we trader the corsa and my partner car (Honda Civic) in exchange for this GTI.
The bloke at the garage didnt make it very clear whether he was taken my corsa in as part exchange or whether he would sell it for me as it had outstanding finance on it.
We waited a few months by that time he had sold the car we were after as he was still waiting to sell the corsa - he had driven it around the uk - putting 4000 miles in the clock (it was at 8658 with a tank of petrol) - we wasnt aware of this until much later.
He then said that he had another GTI coming in but we had to sign the new finance - which was less than we were paying, this was before he had bought the car - as he buys and sells over the internet in Auctions, we were verbally told that it would be in A1 condition as per the previous ones and he had a buyer for my car. he sent us a invoice for the part exchange and the reg details of the new vehicle so we can arrange insurance also it stated that a complementary tank of petrol and 6 months tax would be included in the sale.
A week passed and he rang us to say the car was in, we wnt to pick it up and i noticed that my car had gone so we were happy - looked over the car and we noticed that a bit of paint work was needed, and the front light, passenger wing mirror and drivers electric door didnt work. he said you can take it now and he'll arrange for the parts to be ordered and for it to go in the paint shop.
Then he took my partners honda's keys off us gave us the GTI's keys and asked for £104 so he could get tax? which i though was a bit strange anyway my partners paid for this and we took it home via the petrol station as there wasnt any petrol in the tank and a new revised invoice - hes selling my corsa at a lower price to another trader and there was no metion of our tax or petrol. we went home and mulled over what we had so far.
We then was going to see him every night for the parts to be done on the car and for some sort of explanation as i was still paying for the corsas finance and the GTI's - but he had done a disappearing act and is never there.
9 months have now past and ive been to the DVLA as we still have yet to receive the V5C, we only have the new keepers suplement - which has tip ex on as it was used by the garage to get tax on. The trader is now saying that he never had the V5C with the vehicle only the green - new keepers part of which he used to tax the car. - he said that we would have to make arrangements to get the vehicle registered as he says its nothing to do with them.
I have been to the finance company regarding this trader and the faults with the vehicle and V5 - but they have yet to do anything as the trader is telling them that all has been sorted and therefore they have left him alone even thought nothing has been rectified.
We have now taken the vehicle off the road and we are going to sort the defects out on the vehicle ourself and also we cannot get tax as we are not the registered vehicles yet.
And lastly - i received yet another revised invoice which is completley different for charges for petrol, tax and a valet for the sale of the corsa? charges totaled £100.
Please could someone confirm what the garage has done is illegal - i feel that he has basically sold us a vehicle that we are paying finance on that we dont actually own - also do i have to pay the petrol, tax and valet charges? shouldi report it to the police?
Help Please
