View Full Version : Obtaining later LT77 gearboxes?

Does anyone know of sources for LT77 gearboxes for the SD1 Vitesse? I
really want to get my hands on another spare one, but they are getting
increasingly hard to find in the Vitesse spec (28A prefix, D sufffix).

I would like to understand better which other vehicles they were used
in. Is it correct that some V8 Land Rovers or Range Rovers used the 28A
version of the box, or not, before they changed to the R380? There are
later versions of the box with suffixes up to "H" and perhaps beyond.
Some of these were fitted on the freight Rover vehicles. Non-V8 LR/RR
boxes have different ratios, and there are websites that list all the
flavours. I obtained an "H" suffix box that came from an SD1 Vitesse,
but I somehow doubt it was the original one.

Of course one could always get an R380 (with serial numbers from 50A
upwards), but you have to get the right gear ratios and have the gear
lever an inch or two further back and modify the mountings, because the
rear casing is slightly different.

Too much confusion...
