Just a warning for anyone out there considering taking out a policy with warranty direct or if they already have one, I had a warranty on my car, the engine failed and I took it to my local Unipart garage as specified on the policy, the garaged screwed up the repair and the engine blew again, this time making it un repairable, the garage refused to honour their guarantee even though the engine failed after 1 month, warranty direct advised me to get my car repaired by another garage and sue the garage for the money, i did thus and the garage in question "phoenix traded" i.e. liquidated their company and re-opened under a new name, meaning i could not claim any of the £10k this has all cost me, warranty direct will not help, they are aware of the legal loophole used by refuse to warn their policy holders.
Beware - the policy is a complete waste of money and you will end up even more out of pocket for taking it out and following their advice!

By the way – the garage is now called AV-ONE, they are in bounds green north London, total cowboy operation run by back street crooks!

I spent £600 on a year's warranty for my Renault Espace 53 2.2dCi with Warranty Direct. 6 months in I have had two mechanical breakdowns, one due to a faulty EGR valve, the second due to a crack in the rocker cover. I have paid out nearly £1000 to have these repairs done because small-print in the policy excluded these parts. I feel extremely hard done by and have to question whether these warranties are really worth the money. The Daily Telegraph clearly thinks so as they promote them heavily. My experience says otherwise.

My faith in Warranty Direct has been restored to some extent. Upon appealing their decision not to pay out on the cracked rocker cover they agreed to meet the labour costs if Renault could be persuaded to make a goodwill payment. Renault replied within a few days of my writing to them with an offer of 50% of the repair which I thought was extremely generous. WD took a very long time but did in the end pay up for the labour. They also subsequently paid up very fast on a claim for a failed aircon compressor so all in all a pretty reasonable return on premium.

If you do opt for one of their policy ask what extensions are available. Once my EGR valve claim had been disallowed they then wrote to me offering an extension (at extra premium) which would in future cover EGR valve failure!

You have the answer....... The policies are all different and have various levels.. priced according. Usually people go for the cheapest - basic- one and then moan when it doesnt cover something thats failed.
Its a case of reading the small print!!!!!!
And not expecting everything for nothing. Warranty Direct are a well known and long established company who keep their name - as opossed to changing it every six months! ALL the after market warranties are the same. Its up to the buyer to read what they are buying !

yup. You just have to ask the information about it and have to think if you really need and want it. that's all.

Yes but it's not really fair if Warranty Direct don't let you know that extensions are available at extra cost. No mention of the EGR extension was ever made in any of the literature I received nor by the salesman who sold me the original policy. Having shelled out £ 500 plus for the original gold warranty of course I would have paid an extra £35 for the extra cover. But if you don't tell people it's available in your literature they won't know to ask. Reading the small print wouldn't have made the blindest difference in this case.

I wouldn't do it. Because everything with them is an excuse. You pay X amount for the plan. Than you take it in for repairs! They tell you that your coverage hasn't started til X amount of months or X amount of miles. Than when they find something wrong with it, they tell you it was because of lack of maintenance on your part. Then you have to pay for the check up. Also they will not cover any repairs that cost more than the value of your car. I would stay away from those warranties. What you spend on that warranty you can put aside for future repairs.

It sounds like you had an uninsured dealer backed guarentee rather than an insured warranty. I can understand your frustrations but Warranty Direct can offer a very valuable product if you are willing to do your research before you buy.
There are a lot of people that are happy with them and the products that they provide.
On the new Talk Warranties website there is a link showing some more positive reviews from customers that Warranty Direct has helped.
