Any suggestions of a Ins Co that might give me a good price.
Haven't tried the SD1 club, as I'm not a member but maybe it would be worth
joining if they've negotiated some favourable rates.
I'll email them but there doesn't appear to be any info on their website re
insurance.
TIA
Mike.

I use Peter Best (01621 840400). Heritage (0121 246 6060) also advertise
in the club magazine. I think Heritage refused me at the time because
one of my Vitesses has got a 4.6l new engine in, so it's modified. I
haven't tried them again.

Peter Best do special rates for club members (although I don't know how
much I'm benefitting), and various limited mileage options.

www.grandstand2000.co.uk kmis insurance - great prices, email quotes and
personal attention. I've not financial interest in them, just a very
satisfied customer for the last 5 years.

1970 Triumph 2.5PI - agreed value fully comp 1500 miles for £70
1992 VW Scirocco 1.8 - agreed value fully comp 5000 miles for £160
1988 Bertone X1/9 - agreed value fully comp 1500 miles for £67

I'll also be interested in this one. I'm with RAC classic (Hall & Clarke)
who were competitive when I first insured with them, but increased the
premium by rather more than inflation last time. If they try this again.
I'll be changing - once more.

FWIW I've had a quote from Adrian Flux for £100. FC, agreed valuation, 3000
miles a year. Presumably the London price would be higher.
Haven't decided yet as I'm still waiting to hear from a couple of other
Co's.
Apart from that, I haven't fixed the exhaust yet.

Have you by any chance got the Rover Pt No for the front box, (the sideways
one) and the tail box.
Presumably your EFI has the same o/s dia exhaust as the Vitesse, with the 2
bolt flanges, as opposed to the 3 bolt flanges on the carb V8.
As usually happens the supplier got it wrong. Wally.
Reckons he can sort out the correct ones, if I give him the Pt No's

One of _them_?

I use Firebond - they seem relatively unfussed. They even cover my Supra on
a classic policy, and it's just a crappy 15 year old Toyota.

Just a bit - IIRC over 250 last time. First year was 180 which I thought
ok.

I'm afraid not - I don't have a parts cat. Are the Rimmers numbers no use?
I can never work out when they're using the Rover ones or their own.

At the manifold? Mine is three studs. After those it's a Rimmer's
stainless - an excellent buy given how often the steel one failed.

IIRC, the Vitesse manual and auto or EFI have identical components apart
from the Y piece.

There were at least two excellent looking secondhand systems in bits at
the national club meet which I'd say would only have fetched pennies.

See. There are advantages to not living in the smoke. :-)

The GEX No's certainly look like OEM numbers, but Rimmers prices!
I can pick up my exhaust parts locally, or should I say when I can pick up
my exhaust parts, for 20-25% less than Rimmers are charging.

Maybe stainless another time. Can't afford it at present.
Tax for the Celica at beginning of month, and the ins paid today. :-(

I think you'll find the Y piece for both the EFI engines is the same, apart
from different mounting points for either auto or manual, and from the
downpipes rearwards, the injected models have larger diameter pipes with 2
bolt joining flanges, as opposed to 3 bolt flanges on the carb cars.

Yes, I've used Firebond for years for my "classics". Seems as long as it's
pre dec 31st 1992 they'll put it on a classic policy. They let me put a
K-reg vitara on a classic policy! Usually though, it's been Capris, old
Saabs and Citroens I've insured with them.
Firebond seem to pay out without much complaining too - both my brother and
a friend have needed to claim off them in the last few months and
both got reasonable payouts.
