As a young driver you will be class as high risk than other, expect to pay higher auto insurance premiums. The statistics about teenage drivers according to the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), young drivers get into accidents almost 10 times more often than drivers between the age of 30 and 59. That’s why auto insurance premiums for this age group are so high.

However, not all car insurance companies take the same dim view of young drivers. And some discounts are available to help you cut costs. Remember, the higher the risk, the higher the cost of your auto insurance premiums. Let this be your guiding principle as you shop for insurance.

Here are 10 suggestions to help lower auto insurance premiums and keep your teenager's license free of violations:

1. Help your teen learn the laws and follow them to the letter. By far, the best way to lower car insurance costs for teens is for them to keep their driving record clean. Make safe driving a family project. In some states, restrictions apply to new drivers. Parents should know what the laws are and insist that their sons and daughters follow them.

2. Set a good example. Do you break the speed limit and tailgate? Do you yell at other drivers when you're behind the wheel? If you do these things, how can you expect your children to act differently? Start watching your own driving long before they get their license and you'll have a much easier time convincing them to be safe drivers. Remember, actions speak louder than words.

3. Put your teenager on your policy. Rather than setting up an independent policy for your teen driver, put them on your auto insurance policy as an additional driver. In this way, all the discounts applied to your policies will be passed on to them.

4. Pay your teenager to get good grades. Here's a creative tip — find out how much you save if your teenager gets a good grade point average and pass it on to them. Usually, having a 3.0 or higher GPA will reduce your car insurance premium by 10 percent. Figure out exactly how much this saves you and give that money to your teenager. This accomplishes two things. First, it provides a direct reward for academic performance. Secondly, it motivates them to continue getting good grades.

5. Enroll them in driver education courses. Discounts are available for teens who take recognized driving classes. But call your car insurance company to find out which schools are covered before paying big bucks.

6. Steer clear of sports cars. Don't try to live vicariously through your teenager by giving them the hot car you couldn't get in high school. Getting your teenager a safe car to drive, with the latest safety equipment, will lower your premiums. Not only will you save money on car insurance, but fast driving will be less of a temptation.

7. Get their support. Don't assume that your teenager wants to vacuum clean your wallet. Ask them for help cutting costs and point out that you will share in the savings (see rule #4). Tell them how much car insurance costs and show them how this fits into the family budget. If nothing else, you will score points for treating them as adults.

8. Talk to your kids about drugs and alcohol. This is a tough subject to broach with teenagers, who think they have everything under control. But the consequences of saying nothing can be catastrophic. Take the time to lay down some guidelines in this important area.

9. Take traffic school to beat tickets. Once a ticket is on your teen's license, it takes months to get the violation removed. Instead, encourage them to take traffic school if the judge allows it. A day spent thinking about the consequences of unsafe driving can bring rewards for years to come.

10. Ride with your teenager. Your teenager was a safe driver last year when he or she got a license. But what's happened since then? Let your son or daughter take the wheel while you sit back and relax in the passenger seat. If you see them doing something that breaks rules or seems unsafe, point this out in a diplomatic way. If they are doing a good job driving, praise them for their efforts.

If you follow the above suggestions, you will find that you can make it through the teenage years safely — and without paying an arm and a leg for car insurance. It just takes cooperation and understanding from both sides of the generation gap.

Hi all I want to share the information about auto insurance with you all.

Insurance acts as protective umbrella against any kind of loss. Today one need not to visit an Insurance company to buy the Insurance, he can simply buy the same with the help of Online Insurance sites. Buying Auto Insurance is not at all complicated, but one needs to do some study and research about the same. It's not as painful as it sounds and checking out some facts about car insurance could save you hundreds of dollars a year on premiums. The Insurance rates depend on the insurance company, your age, where you live, the car you drive, the kind of vehicle, the year etc. Some Insurance companies offer discounted Car Insurance which makes you tension free from your car damages.

Other factors that go into your car insurance price are based on the car insurance company's "loss history." For example, one car insurance company may have had a lot of claims involving sports cars and you drive one. Even if you have a clean driving record, the company's history of losses with sports cars can make them rate you higher, which means you would pay a higher premium for sports car insurance with them. Another car insurance company (http://www.autoinsexpo.com/aboutus.html)may not have that same loss history, so your sports car wouldn't represent a higher risk to them. With this company, you wouldn't be rated higher and probably wouldn't have to pay a higher premium for your sports car insurance.

Sometimes the high insurance rates you receive can be greatly influenced by where you live. If you live and/or regularly drive in a high crime or high accident area, your rates will likely be higher than someone in a zip code with less crime and accidents. That's why it's important to know the regulations in your state to make sure you meet the legal requirements.

People over 50 years of age have an advantage, but if you are young driver car insurance (http://www.autoinsexpo.com/young-car-driver-insurance.html) can be very expensive. Statistics show that young drivers have more accidents and they also suffer more from theft, fire and vandalism claims. Insurance rates for teenagers can be more than 50% less on an older car that a newer model. Because Older cars have depreciated in value giving the insurer less monetary risk compared to a newer car. In addition, older cars usually carry much less collision and comprehensive coverage than you would on a new car. Since you cannot control your age or your driving record, so remember that the single most important factor that you can control is the car you want to insure - a fast car and young driver equals a high premium. Sometimes, although not ideal, the only way to get affordable car insurance is to drive a small old car and insure it

Many people believe that only their driving record is important, but within the last decade, insurance companies have also begun using credit information as an additional factor to help predict which persons pose more risk. Insurers believe that the healthier your credit history, the less likely you are to file a claim against your auto insurance policy. If your credit history suggests that you are a responsible driver, you may be offered lower premium else you may pay higher preiums for the coverage you offered. Regularly review your auto coverage to make sure that you're receiving the best insurance value for your money.

Pay your premium in full instead of in monthly instalments, because insurers will offer a discount on a lump sum but add a surcharge for instalments.
Install security measures such as an alarm or immobiliser which makes to reduces the cost of car insurance.

As a final note, If you are on the fast track go through the site online auto insurance (http://www.autoinsexpo.com/), you will have a pretty good idea of how much auto insurance to buy with lowest auto insurance quotes. At AutoInsExpo, you can get free car insurance quotes and can even buy car insurance online today.

So I would advice all to get auto insurance because we never know who will be behind the wheel.

cheers,
Hemo David.

Hi,

You all raise good points regarding cheap car insurance for young drivers; it is tough to find such a thing. For the UK, the Pass Plus is essential as it can give the same discount as 1 year no claims bonus. Also consider the car on the policy, a new driver with a modified or high performance car isn't going to get cheap quotes! Shopping around for car insurance (http://www.17to40.co.uk) can be a good step to getting lower premiums.

All the best guys!

Mike
