Hi all,
After years in the motortrade I am still shocked at how people go about selling ther cars.
People used to turn up at my showroom in cars that had not seen a sponge or a hoover for months.
Here are my top tips for selling a car both privatly or PX or to a dealer.
1, clean the car properly at than means inside and out. touch in any fine scratches with permanent felt pen rather than a touch up pen (they always make a mess).
2, EMPTY the car ash tray (ive seen dozens of ppl claim to be non smokers just to have a ash tray full of dimps. ( no one likes a liar).
3, If your going to sell a car privatly (http://www.ukcarads.co.uk) then you need to advertise your car for sale in as many places as possible. UKCarAds.co.uk (http://www.ukcarads.co.uk) allow you to advertise your car for sale free on over 200 websites including the THE Sun & LYCOS car classifieds.
4, Know how much you want for the car. search the web for cars for sale (http://http://www.ukcarads.co.uk/applogic/advanced_search)similar to yours to get a good idea of that you should be asking.
5, Remember to mention as much detail about your car as possible and try to use real real words instead of abbreviations ( not everyone knows what I.C.E means)
6, Car Px prices vary alot, this is not because a particular car dealer thinks your car is worth hundreds more it is because they simply use some of there profit to boost there offer to make it sound more. (always ask what they have been offered if they are selling the car to a trader)
7, give the dealer as much info as possible about your car, tell them if it has just been serviced or had new tyres this all helps. (make sure they look round the car properly rather than just glance at it through a window).
8, It does not matter if you are selling a car privatly (http://www.ukcarads.co.uk)or to a dealer be prepared to haggle.
9, my top tip for haggling is to get them to make an offer first. say for example i was selling my car for 10,000 pounds. if someone asked me how much i would take for it i would still say ten thousand pounds. I would then wait for them to make me an offer.
if they said i will give you nine i would say i am really after ten but how close to that can you go.
this puts you in control of negotion rather than them.

I hope this helps.
