Ok I have just discovered how these fraudsters are working this scam in the UK.

You get an initial enquiry
They say they are interested and will pay you a few thousand more than the car is worth. This overpayment will either be for shipping or they have made a mistake and sent the wrong cheque (because they are such busy importers!)
You get a UK bankers draft through a courier (TNT etc)
They urge you to pay the cheque in asap & forward the excess to the courier.
You present the cheque to the bank
You may even ask to bankto verify the cheque ... this will show as valid, that someone ordered a bankers draft from bank x in whereever.
The scammer (wanting to buy your car) will put pressure on you to froward the excess funds from your savings etc to the shipping agent, because they want a speedy transaction & his client wants his car.
What you do not know is that the bankers draft gets cancelled 2 days after you have presented it to the bank. Meaning the cheque bounces and you are out of pocket if you've sent your own money to them

Moral of the story is DO NOT SEND ANY MONEY VIA WESTERN UNION! If they want to buy your car get them to wire money to your western union! DO NOT GIVE THEM YOUR BANK ACCOUNT DETAILS
DO NOT SELL YOUR CAR TO SOMEONE THAT HAS NEVER SEEN IT

You have been warned

ACTUALLY... the certified cashier's check was never valid in the first place. It's a counterfeit and the bank doesn't figure it out of a few days.

please read the following and let me know if these are scams, as I've got a gut feeling they are,

Hello,
i saw your advert via the internet regarding the purchase of your range rover chassis,I am a business man in Holland who is into importation, i have a local shipper who takes care of my shipping so shipping is no problem, as soon as the transaction is completed my shipper will come and pick it up. my only request is if you will accept a cashier check drawn in a uk bank, so if this is ok with you, kindly let me know your last price offer via email. expecting your urgent response
Thanks
Perry
Best regards to your family

I placed an ad on craigslist and was emailed backby a guy from Holland. I told him everything about my car, its flaws and its condition. He seemed interested and wrote me this email, I don't know what to make of it, should I continue the transaction or not? I have dealt with selling overseas.

Email to Blueorbital:

Thanks for the info,i think im satisfied.
Like i said earlier i am based in the netherland(holland).there
won't be any probs about the shipment, after payment ,the pick up will be made at your place.
i will make arrangements with the prepaid shipping company.
As regards payment,this is what i am going to do;
I have a client in the US who is owing me US$8,850, i
would instruct him to make out a money order/certified
check to you in that amount and as soon as it clears
your bank. you can now deduct your money from it and send me my
balance,i will
using use part of the money to pay for the shipping and other
expenses .you will
then send my balance by via western union money transfer.Although the
value of the check is more than the asking price but i think i should be able to trust you with my balance.
The reason why i am doing this is that it would take
a check sent from over here 21days to clear
over there, whereas a check sent from the US would
clear tops within 48hrs.
So i would like you to deduct the western union
charges from my balance. So if my terms are acceptable
to you,i would like you to give me your full
name, address and phone number so that i can instruct
my client to make out the check to you.
Pls get back to me as soon as you get this mail so
that we can round things up in a timely fashion..i will be trusting
you in
this business transaction.
Thanks ,
regards

just tell them your not into ADMIN work, and they can send you a cheque FOR THE CORRECT AMOUNT and the car wont be eligable for shipping until it clears, or buy somewhere else.

No, you tell them that you will accept payment via Western Union ONLY. If they send too much money, it's tough, you'll keep it all.

have you found out if the cheque has cleared o.k. yet? I've done the same as you - deposit the cheque, just waiting to see what happens. The bloke knows that I won't let the car go or send money until his cheque clears! What happens if the money clears, and then a few days later the bank change their mind and say it was counterfeit or stolen or something?

I don't see the point of this bloke going through with the 'deal' if he knows the cheque will bounce, and I won't cough up before hand??

I guess I'll know in a week or so, lol...

1. what is your landline tel number?
2. what is your real address?
3. who is your local agent?
4. why are you wanting to buy a car you haven't even named?
5. why do all you scammers use the same words?
6. if you don't reply within 4 hours I'll send your details to the Fraud Office at Scotland Yard.

I've never had an honest reply yet.

Just ignore them or send details to the Fraud Office - who incidentally also NEVER reply!!!
