I also am such a fool, cannot believe I fell for it and my husband is never going to let me live it down!
Vehicle Connect rang me up promising had a buyer for my car which was for sale in Autotrader and that I had to pay a deposit of £99.50 in case vehicle was sold which would be fully refunded within 7 days if my vehicle was not sold. No surprise my car was not sold and I did not receive a single enquiry that came from vehicle connnect. Tried to get back in touch with company after 7 days to get refund and nobody is answering the phone.
Credit card company no help as I gave them my credit card details and permission to take the amount from my card.
I have also kissed goodbye to any hope of getting my £99.50 back and am more annoyed with myself for being so stupied but out of principle I want them to suffer.
After looking at the forum I have reported them to trading standards, watchdog and the police but I am not holding my breath as it is just adding to the evidence they already have but I have had another brain wave. If you go onto to www.companieshouse.co.uk you can download company information about limited companies including Vehicle Connect. If you download the company report it tells you the home address of the director of the company and the company secretary and it only costs £1.00. I have sent a very "nice" letter to the home address of both the director and the company secretary and would encourage others to do the same. Shame it does not show the telephone number as perhaps someone would answer it then.

I have just found this site today and was amazed at the number of people duped by VEHICLE CONNECT.I have been trying to get through all day but no luck, anyway I parted with £99 on 29 December 2006 so this proves they were syill trying it up to last Friday when my husband got through but was told the lady wasn't in, I have been on to Watchdog and will write to the owners when I get the addresses off the website you gave.I won't hold my breath but have learned a lesson, so anyone who thinks it's all over think again.

;) Well I only put my car up a few days ago & the day after I get a call from this Vehicle Connect asking for my postcode & all that, so I hand it over...but then something doesn't feel right so I google them & happen across this site...
naturally I'm kicking myself @ this point...so today they ring back and armed with my new information, I calmly say 'sorry, but I'm not interested in using Vehicle Connect' & the guy just put the phone down! :p
All I can say is that God I got the chance to right my wrongs! :D

My suspicions were aroused when I asked them to send me their details by email but they insisted on a fax.
Since placing my advert in Autotrader on Monday I've had 6 calls from them (initially just asking to send me details but the last one was the promise of a buyer), before I signed up I thought I'd do some digging....
Their calls have come from 01992 703310, 01992 703080 and 01992 703308 - I'm now screening any calls from the 01992 area.
Unrelated - I've also had emails in response to the advert that appear to be from abroad, bad spelling and signed off "Thank you and Godbless" - I'm wondering how this might be a scam (money laundering?).
Thanks for highlighting this.

I got a call from these people today within 2 hours of puttting my ad on Exchange and Mart. Told me I would be getting a call from a buyer and asked for my postcode and house number. That was all I gave them - I decided to check them out as it seemed a bit strange and I found this forum thank goodness. I haven't given any other details - I am in the clear if I tell them to get lost when I get another call??

After ignoring all calls from the 01992 area (about 10 times) they finally caught up with me after they came through "number unavailable".
I told them "thanks but no thanks"
The guy on the phone was clearly agitated and kept asking me why.
I finally told him it was because I'd seen these comments on the web and he tried to explain that "that was years ago, it's not true"
After I said "I still don't want to proceed" he had a go at me for wasting his time and hung up on me!
Even if isn't a scam I wouldn't touch them.

Hahaha, I too had dodgy e-mails, asking me to ship the car and offering STUPID amounts, this one man was like it is a present for my son, I will send you the money & have my shipper collect the car...I mean, do they really expect us to believe such a thing!

Did it look like this?
"Hi ,
I am a very open and honest person that expects the same,I am so happy and keen with the present condition of the car which is perfect to me for my son's use.I actually need the car for hes private use because I have mine and am always a busy Man traveling around. He's so much keen in buying the car and I was hoping to make you an offer for £12100 I will be willing to pay for the car. If you accept my offer, Then we can make arrangment for inspection and test drive at your own convenience which we have made a concrete deal also more personalty.
Get back to me and let me know your perfect decision with kind.
Regards"
I must admit I have gone back stating that money will have to be cleared before releasing the car (obviously), should alarm bells be ringing for any other reason?
Will I hear back?

Just had a phone call from 'You Know Who'
The stupid person from Vehicle Connect actually told me to look on their website to see how wonderful and 'genuine' they were - can you believe the stupidity. As soon as I typed in Vehicle Connect it came up with your forum.
The reason he told me to check out the 'professionalism' of his company was because we fell for exactly the same scam about 6 months ago with a company called Vehicle Match. I mentioned this and the guys proceeded to slag them off saying they were rogues and that they were on Watchdog and they were now closed down. He was annoyed that they had given 'genuine' companies like Vehicle Connect a bad name!!
THANKS A MILLION GUYS for this forum and your thread about this company. They are so persuasive and I can see why people believe them. A few people's posts have called themselves 'stupid'. I felt stupid for falling for the first scam. Thank goodness I did not fall for this one. I am now wondering what I can better spend my £100 I saved on?

I placed an advert on Trade-It yesterday and once submitted they showed me some useful information on potential scams.
It would be useful if other classified ad sites would do the same.
I appreciate they can't name specific companies but they could give advertisers a few words of warning.
I placed my advert on Autotrader two weeks ago and have had 5 different companies/individuals trying to "scam" me in different ways.

After reading these posts I feel such an idiot.
Vehicle Connect called me on Friday 29th July promising the sale of my car within 7 days and there was 2 potential buyers calling me Friday evening and over the weekend. Guess what? No callers and my car advert is not even up on their website. Muggins here is £99.50 poorer as a result. It's not yet 7 days, but after reading these posting i don't think i'll be giving Vehicle Connect the benefit of my doubt.
I just called them today and surprisingly got through to the 'buying' department(not to customer care though). They of course could not refund me as they didn't have the facility in that particular department. The man transferred me through to Customer Care and of course no answer.
I am so angry as i write this email and feel such a fool, especially as i have never respond to cold callers in the past and thought people are stupid for letting it happen to them. Oh well, it's a lesson learnt and I won't be doing that again.

On 26th June I received a call from these guys, saying they had 3 buyers interested. The lad that called me asked me to pay £99.50 as a guarantee for the condition of my car and that this would be refunded once the sale was complete. Well guess what, no one called about my car. I then received a letter from them thanking me for my advert. I was never told about an advert and I most definately would not have paid this amount for 28 days. I managed to get hold of someone and without listening to my complaint started to raise her voice to me, i asked to speak with someone else and she told me there was no one else as she was the customer servies manager and said to put my complaint in writing and slammed the phone down.

I am so angry. My little brother fell for this scam yesterday, he is only 18 and these people have completley ripped him off. He is selling his car because he wants to go to university and needs to buy things for his flat he will be living in, so he puts it in the auto trader like people do. Then this Vehicle connect called him saying they had a buyer for his car that would be here on friday to buy the car, he was asked to pay £99.75 a deposit for condition of his car and then this would be refunded once the guy brought the car, he did this believeing what this guy told him. He asked me to ring them this morning to find out what time the guy would be here friday couldnt get any answer from the number given so decided to search on the net to make sure the number was correct. Then found this forum and many others with different names for this company including Motor help - car connect uk. So now my poor brother who is struggling to pay for things for uni is now £100 down as well as completey gutted that he beileved these people. i am so angry that these people can keep getting away with it. I am contacting auto trader to say they should put an advert in there magazine warning people to these scams

Why didn't I see this Forum last week. Yes, I've been duped by Vehicle Direct. They contacted me via 01992703303 & 01992703308 and convinced me they had buyers waiting tin the wings to buy my car. "Why the refundable deposit" I ask, they say it it to justify that my intention to sell my car is genuine. It is to combat people defrauding them (!!!!) by trying to sell stolen vehicles or cars with ouitstanding finance on them. So I part with £99.50 dia debit card. WRONG THING TO DO. Nothing happens after 1 day so I check out their web site and try to phone contact numbers given, all either only allow outgoing calls or are unobtainable All emails to addresses listed are returned. Looks like I've lost my hard earned cash. I've reported them to Autotrader, Watchdog and Trading Standards in the hope by informing others they'll not be as silly as me in the desire to get my car sold. As eggs are eggs, one day though, they'll be caught and I hope they get their just rewards and someone posts on this site to let us all know.

Further to above I contacted Consumer Direct and I've cut'n pasted what they advised and carried it out. (Used all the details as listed in Vehicle Directs website) Here's hoping :-
"Based on the information given I would advise a recorded delivery letter be sent to the trader stating the service you have paid for (contact from buyers) has not been provided and you are seeking a refund and response within 14 days.
Also, the Consumer Protection (Distance Selling) Regulations 2000 states services to be provided within 7 working days are exempt and the consumer cannot cancel once the service has started however the consumer should be made aware of this and if not then the cancellation period extends to 3 months and 7 days.
If you do not receive a satisfactory response to the letter please contact Consumer Direct and the details will be referred to Trading Standards for possible assistance
I will notify the details to trading standards in the meantime."
Hope this helps someone. (p.s another dodgy number 01992 703311)

We'r all victims of Vehicle Connect Scam.. I recieved a call from them yesterday and yes i admit im a fool cus i gave it. I wont repeat but i experienced exactly samething as you guys did. She sounded so convicing + geniue, very professional + confident, she even said we have a site online which has all the details (making it out to be that she isnt lying), she even sed she from finance company called vehicle connect. Confirmed if my car is sold or not i wud get a full refund within 7days. So she sed that 2buyers wud come after 6 (yesterday) keep the car clean n tidy. Cleaned my car and waited 4 like 3hrs like a fool, tried ringing the company to ask when wud they be coming 'no ansa' thinking it mite be closed now so then thought why not do abit of research on the net. Here i go finding lots of forums calling it a 'scam' i felt really mad - called my bank straightaway but cudnt cancel the payment cus that b****h had taken it but cancelld my card so they cudnt take nemore transactions, then rang police and lodged a complaint.
I cant believe i fell this - i know watch dog or police cant do much so i contacted ‘Financial Ombudsman Services’ (FOS) on 0845 080 1800 – i rang them if i cud get any sort of advice, told them the whole situation that i was misled and plus many people had actually written complaints on the forums, also told them that vehicle connect has like 15 different telephone numbers but none of them answer.
Gave them details:
• vehicle connect and postcode EN9 1EQ ,
• the person’s name who rang
• the reference number she gave me
• & the telephone numbers she gave as we asked for: 01992 703302 & 01992 703311
The advisor at FOS told me that they actually regulate this company (since last year) and icud make a complaint against them if iwasnt happy with happened. She has written a letter to them – she sed this can take up 8weeks to resolve and im willing to wait as long they get into trouble am happy. Every complaint that is lodged with financial ombudsman services also gets recorded with ‘Financial Authority Services’ (FSA).
I urge people to contact ‘Financial Ombudsman Services’on 0845 080 1800 – keep all info ready to give to FOS as they will ask for it!!!

Hi
Having recently advertised my car in AutoTrader, I was approached today (Mon 12th) by a company calling themselves Vehicle World Services of Whetstone/Finchley, North London. Company incorporated 12/2/2007. Registered No. 06096856.
At first the approach seemed genuine but I had suspicions from the outset. The price offered for my car is slightly less that the AutoTrader ad but enough to be of interest. I was told that they had three people interested in my car and all I needed to do was to pay £99.00 and they buyers would be put in touch with me.
I found this site and now I suspect that Vehicle World Services may be scam
Of course they could always be genuine, but the approach seemed very similar to that of Vehicle Connect.
Anyone else heard of Vehicle World Services ?
Any thoughts ?

Yes, I've been contacted by them this week.
I advertised my car in Autotrader on Monday and a chap called Tony Lee started ringing me on Tuesday. He said that they had a number of buyers that would pay within £195 of my £22k asking price. All I had to do was make the car available for viewing and test drive. He then explained there was a fee for their services of £99.99. He said that they were hoping to secure a finance deal with the buyer and if they managed to do so my £99.99 would be refunded. He said the buyers were all within a 47 mile radius of my home address and they were waiting to come round the same day and view the car. This immediately made me suspicious as it was dark!! They ask you to make a note of their customer services number to ring once the car is sold. This is 0845 430 0318. They then give you a 6-figure reference number to quote.
When Mr Lee asked for my fee to be paid by credit/debit card up front my suspicions were confirmed and I told him to sling his hook. They are very persistent though and have tried to ring me again today. The numbers I am receiving calls from are 0208 492 3932 and 0208 920 7402.
BEWARE - COMPLETE CON-MERCHANTS!

Hi All
I had a vehicle advertised in Trade-It and have been getting the same salepitch on the phone from a company called motorhelp UK,, well needless to say, I sold my vehicle privately through the advert, but then I started to get bombarded with calls from this lot,, the pitch is the same as you have all described and a guy called Maurice..an irish lad, promised me the same things that everyone here has been caught with. I enjoyed letting him talk to me on my mobile phone for over 15minutes (racking up charges on their bill LOL :)

Hi, Good News, I followed all the above and eventualy contacted my Building Society Fraud Department. Nationwide BS. They investigated the above and got in touch with Vehicle Connects' Bank Merchant. After no response after 30 days my Building Society retracted the ammont I paid to Vehicle Direct from Vehicle Directs banker Merchant, whoever they were. The bottom line after 6 months of hassle and much good work by Nationwide Building Society Fraud Department I got my money back.
Stick that in your pipe and smoke it VC !!!!!:)

I seem to have been taken in by this lot too....Our car's been On AutoTrader for a couple of days......'We have three interested parties ready to buy, 47 miles away'......same old patter.
Same phone number too...0208 4923932 and ring us on 0845 4300318 as soon as they make a decision!
My contact was with a 'Nicole Chorleen'.
'It'll take us half an hour to sort the details out and pass the contact info onto the prospective buyer'....right...gives them enough time to get the card debited!
Seemed so plausible, and so I did the credit card thing...checked website...looked kosher...but did Google search straight away after I'd put the phone down and came up with this forum.
Immediately phoned CC company and told them I believed I'd just been scammed.
They said that if it went through they could log it as a disputed transaction...'services not delivered'...and their fraud section would look into it....we'll see!
Suffice to say that there have been no calls from prospective buyers, but I did try the 0208 number and got a reply! Wasn't expecting one so put phone straight down! Will try again tomorrow after I've checked CC account...
Mind you - I was going to spend £65 getting it fully valeted tomorrow, but I blitzed it myself this afternoon (expecting a visit), and it looks sweet....! So - not such a bad day....

I was recently contacted by Vehicle Connect (0208 492 3932) and they said they wanted to send me details of their services and potential buyers via email so I gave them my email address (not that I've received any yet).
However, they keep calling and I'm igoring their calls but I've just discovered that have gone into liquidation.
Keep well away from them and anyone else like them!!!!

The following is intended to help you get in touch with the people from Vehicle World Services to hopefully obtain a refund for the fee they have fraudulently taken from you.
To my surprise “Vehicle World Services Limited” is a company registered with Companies House in the UK. The company’s Annual Return dated 17 March 2008 (which is publicly available information) discloses the following:
The UK registered office is 1146 High Road, London, N20 0RA. I believe that this is actually the company’s accountants “Cymans”.
The owners of the company are Christsos Vassou and a C Vassou, both of 220 Waltham Way, Chingford, London, E4 8AW. These individuals own 50% each of the company receiving your “advertising fees”.
The only other person who may be able to help you is the Company Secretary Yeliz Sabri of 45 Derwent Avenue, Edmonton, London, N18 1BP
I wish you luck with your requests for repayment.
I am unsure if this is the company replacing those now in liquidation or if this is a copy cat company.

I am a naturally cautious person, and when my wife informed me she had received a call from Vehicle World Services with a similar offer to those already detailed, £99.00 payment, 3 buyers within 50 miles, etc. I made a few enquiries.
I googled "Vehicle World Services", and was impressed by their snappy professional website.
Thank you that your post/forum was just underneath.:)
I then proceeded to search for car finance, insurance, warranties, used cars, vehicle matching agencies and the like. Vehicle World Services did not appear in the top 100 listings under any of these searches.
I asked myself the simple question, "How do Vehicle World Services have three buyers lined up for my car if I can't find the company listed using simple search terms?"
This coupled with the knowledge I had gained from your forum armed me with enough information to be ready for the call back.
Janet was very pushy, going over the same information over and over again. The one question she managed to avoid, was how potential buyers knew of Vehicle World Services existence. Eventually I directly accused Vehicle World services of scamming, and the phone went dead.
I note that your forum has now overtaken Vehicle World Services in the natural Google listings, and I hope it remains top so that any other potential victim gets wind of the scam before it is to late for them.
Disaster averted, and I owe you thanks.

Looks like I've been contacted by the dreaded Vehicle World Service as well. She went throught the motions up to the "pay us the £99" bit. I said I had someone coming round to view the vehicle later so didnt know if it would still be available and to call back later today.
Luckily, I did some checking and ended up here.
I will be making a list of nice questions for them when they call, waste some of their time etc.

Hi,
Just adding to this thread to make sure this info about the Vehicle World scamd comes up top on the Google search. Been contacted by them recently and when I ask them to send me details in writing they got very aggressive, they wanted my bank details and how dare I not give them! Alex Webster was the caller. If you have been scammed, contact trading standards, write a letter, if you persist you will get a refund. Email Trading Standards in Barnet, look it up on the Trading Standards website, if they get enough emails they will have to ask.

Beware anyone who has placed an add in the autotradder you will get these company's trying on the "we can sell your car" scam.
They go by different names but the spiel is the same we have interested buyers and if you pay us £99 they will put them in contact with you.
Usually the first call is to check that the vehicle is still for sale and to get your address or email address. They say this is so they can send you information but then you receive a followup call before the information is sent to you. They have a very convincing sales pitch and will ask all about the car, mileage servicing etc... all of this is to make you think its legit.
If you have the time and feel like making the effort play with them a little. Example: for the last 3 days i have been stringing one along wasting his time. My first excuse was i didn't have the money until i get paid which was in two weeks, he asked if i could "perhaps borrow the money from somebody" I played along and said I would try get the money and could he ring back tomorrow. The next call I received I said I have £50 and I am trying to get the rest. Another day went by. My next excuse was my favorite I said I was in cash converter selling my ipod so I could get the rest of the money (this one really tickled me). Next I told him I was going to the bank to put the money in and could he ring back in an hour or so.
This is where i am up to as I write this post.
Next I am time I am going to say that someone has phoned me and they are coming to see the car tonight and could I wait to see if hes going to buy it.
I don't think I am going to get much more mileage out of this guy so to finish I will tell him I am a researcher on a program he might know called "Watchdog" and that we have been setting them up and collecting evidence to pass on to trading standards to get them shutdown.
I have had a lot of fun with this guy who's been ringing me and wasting a lot of his time I urge everyone else to do the same.
Thanks

Paying a legitimate company to sell your car on the private market is a great idea. But just handing over a ton just like that is crazy. If a company such www.motorgogo.co.uk take on any vehicle I know that they do a full vehicle spec photos video, list it on sites the lot before you even pay a penny in fees. What exactly did you reciev before you threw your money in to the wind?
Thank you so much Guys for this site and the warnings here. Your good work has prevented VC from claiming another innocent seller.
I've just been contacted by them having put my car on Autotrader last Saturday. The call came from 0208 492 3939 and I was a bit suspicious and cut the call short. (I work in a hospital so a great excuse to say "sorry, emergency got to go .....")
I then Googled the number and found this site. I think I might take a leaf out of Avenger's book and have some sport with them them when they ring back.
Thanks again and I'll keep you posted.

Just to report that VC are still at it. Same MO..... e-mail link not working at Autotrader, have an interested party... Being a natural cynic, and not getting anything for nothing, I asked them for their commission rates, and they took the e-mail address and put the phone down.
Current number being used is 0208 4923932, from loud Irish guy.
Am recording the message next time, and leaving the phone off the hook.

Hi
I was also conned out of my money from Vehicle World Services, in the same way all these other people have, yes afterwards we may kick ourselves but I am trying my hardest to not let them get away with it. So here is my advice to others.
I made a phonecall to Vehicle World Services and was told to write a letter of complaint, I sent the first letter recorded delivery, explaining I want my money back, of course no answer, I then spoke to Trading Standards (for the record Financial Ombudsman cannot help), I then with the help of Trading Standards drafted a letter, issuing them with court proceedings if they didnt reply in the next 7 days. This hasnt worked either and I have now issued them with Court. There is a legal system on line now (money claim on line). I had to pay £25 court fees which will hopefully be paid back. Im still waiting on a reply they have till the 3rd of December which is not much longer. If they fail to reply I believe I am then favoured and they will be made to pay up. I strongly advise everybody conned tries the same.
Even it fails to work the judgement goes against there company and looks really bad. Ill come back to let you know my out come.

Hi all
Only just found this site wish I had before. My daughter just got done for £90.
Daily Motors are company (this time). From things I have learnt there are lots out there who have been caught by them usual scam matched buyers ect. Daily Mirror investigates are on their case. I have reported it to everyone I can think of including Auto Trader and demanded our money back as there security is non existant. We have had 5 emails through them all scams, want to send a cheque for shipping ect. Unfortunately my daughter desperate to sell her car was taken in by Daily Motors.
I have hounded them ever since tying up their phone and bombarded them with emails. They keep taking the phone of the hook so I am annoying them.
There details (they also have a web site for a blind)
Daily Motors Ltd, 1st Floor, 103 Cranbrook Road, Ilford, Essex, 1GI 4PU
phone 0871 200 2385
Anyone live on their door step I would love to know if they are there
There web site contains cars that they have scammed money of people and pinched the wording of original advert. People have tried to buy a car but obviously can't.
Anyway I will keep annoying them won't get the money back but they will get fed up before me.

Hi all,
I've been robbed of 70 quid through a similar company, their website being vehiclefirst (sorry but can't post the full URL here but you can figure it out). I'm usually so cautious about these sort of things and after a few google searches I found nothing that seemed dodgy about them so decided to follow up on the voicemail they left me after I put my car up on the gumtree. There voicemail was very convincing saying that they already has several buyers whith approved funds. They said they needed a deposit and I gave them my card details - stupid stupid stupid. After 7 working days I phoned them and said I wanted my money back because they promised to sell it within 5 working days and I hadn't even received a call of interest.
They said they could issue me only with a credit note and I refused to accept the credit note as I have no use for it nor would I ever be interested in making use of their crappy service. No another 5 days have passed and nobody answers the phone at their "offices".
Just thought I'd post this so that other people that may google the name Vehicle First can see that it is another scam.
Appologies for the language that's about to follow, but I sincerely hope those motherf*cking b@stards drown in a pool of sh!t.

01992 is regularly used by companies like these and 01995.. mostly ignore these area codes unless you actually recognise the number
