Tyres for Monza 450s
Hello,
I bought a second hand Monza 450s at the weekend. On the way home on of the tyres burst (I think it had been standing for a long time). Luckily there was a friendly fellow caravanner aroung who gave me a hand to change it, but one thing he noted was that the tyres where not rated for a van of this weight, so before I use it I'll need to replace both tyres. Unfortunately I dont have a manual for the van, so can anyone tell me what tyres I should use. Also where is the jacking point on this model? Thank you Graham Arden Llangernyw, North Wales |

There should be a plate on the drawbar which specifies the maximum permitted laden weight. What does it say? What size are the wheels? You will probably need re-inforced or 6-ply-rated tyres. Tyres have markings which specify the size and the (coded) load and speed ratings - e.g. 175x13 88T - where 175 is the tyre width in mm, 13 is the wheel rim diameter in inches (yes, I know!), 88 is the load rating and T is the speed rating. See further details at http://www.trailerpartswarehouse.co....avan_tyres.htm If you click on "Load Index" or "Speed Symbols" you'll see what the letters and numbers mean. You need to make sure that you use tyres with a load index equivalent to at least half the max weight of your van (as per the plate, mentioned earlier) and with a speed rating higher than the fastest speed at which you'll ever tow the van. With regards to jacking, does your van have a rubber suspension, with an axle tube, attached to the chassis with two big brackets? If so, use a trolley jack under the chassis at one of the bracket attachment points. -- Cheers, Hitch Lock ______ Please reply to newsgroup. Reply address is invalid. |
