Hi,

Been trying to sell my car(s) for a few months - MGF 1.8i 2001 (now returned to finance company), and a Freelander 1.8ES 2002 (want around £14000). I put them on Autotrader (mag and website) for a few weeks in the summer, and got one response for each car, however they weren't too serious.

Both cars were advertised at or below the price of similar spec'd cars, but I just seemed to get nowhere with them, other than chucking money at Autotrader or Exchange & Mart. I've since handed my MGF back at the end of the PCP finance deal, but still want to get rid of my Freelander. It's on Autotrader now at £14000 (at least £500 below similar spec'd cars) but again I'm getting no response. If I trade in, I'll only get £11000, which seems such a waste for a car that cost £20000 just over a year ago! I'm getting married next year, and want a cheaper second-hand car (Puma maybe).

What should I do? Accept the trade in and take the hit (I bought it second-hand for £15500), or wait forever for a second-hand sale that may never come? HELP!

Wibb, this is the state of the current used car market! There are too many cars on the market. I had a citroen xsara that I had posted on my site - I had a few replies - but it had high mileage. I tried auto trader but got only 2 enquiries that were companies trying to sell me a listing in their magazine. This really annoyed me, as you get a bit excited then let down!

So I set about calling people that were advertising similar cars to see if they were getting a response - they too had only had calls from canvasers!

I was forced to sell to a garage a car that 3 years previous had cost £9500 for a mere £1865 ... 2 days later I had 2 people contact me from this site who were keen to buy the xsara.

Patience is the name of the game ... else line the pockets of auto trader & e&M.

Default Puma - 05-23-2005, 02:17 PM

Hi

Sorry this doesn't directly help your situation, I'm having a similar problem selling my Ford Puma and am now prepared to let it go cheaply, might you interested in buying?

I thnk the only way you can get rid of a freelander is torch it and claim the insurance :-)
