| What things have gone wrong with the car? |
No real faults as of yet, it's still very new. The only adjustments that I've had done to it is the back windshield washer was angled slightly wrong, took it in to the dealer and it was adjusted in a minute. |
| General comments: |
This thing really isa big car in small car disguise! Roomy and comfortable without the feeling you're driving a tank!
So far I get about 600 km per 55 liter filling on dubbed winter tires...yes, I'm American and I spell funny for a UK site, forgive me :). I've had 6 people ride in the car comfortably, 2 kids in the rear section, mother-in-law and 6 month old in the center section, husband and I in front. Husband is tall, 190cm or about 6 ft 3 in, in the passenger seat and no problems whatsoever with leg or head room. I'm short, 158cm, or about 5 ft 2 in, and the front driver's seat is quite comfortable, with a nifty feature of being able to raise it up in height as well as forward quite nicely. The center arm rest is shared by both the driver and passenger, which can be tight, but really hasn't caused much problem at all for us. The feature where the back seat is able to be adjusted forward and back is quite nice as it gives the passengers in back a good amount of legroom. My husband can sit behind me very comfortably with no problem for legroom at all. Stereo sound is adequate, I've noticed that the random function on the cd player isn't very random when using a fully packed mp3 cd, I got a lot of the same songs over and over again, but that really is minor. No strange squeaks or otherwise irritating sounds come from the car. It's not overly loud, although a bit louder in the rear than the front, especially if the cargo cover isn't up. Have had three people sitting in the backseat, again, MIL, 7 month old in her carseat with base, and my 7 year old daughter and they were comfortable with the 7 year old in the center and MIL and baby on the sides. Wish that it wasa bit easier raising the extra seats, our carseat has a base unit that stays in the car and we have to take that out to slide the center seats forward to be able to raise the tho back seats, but when the are up there is no problem sliding the center back again and the two rear seats have good legroom, comfort, and space, considering what they are, and they get cupholders, too, dangit (see below!)!
All seats have shoulder belts in our model.
Overall, we're very pleased with this car. It handles nicely, is quite peppy, and very roomy.
Negatives that we've come up with are that there is a lot of spray on wet roads that ends up on the rear door and window and we use the rear window washer a lot. It makes for opening and closing the rear door being very messy, as well. There seems to be a pocket on the inside bottom of the rear door that helps close it, but opening it is messy when the weather is bad. Another negative, which may not be such a negative, it may just be that I was used to driving a sportier car that had a lower center of gravity, is that the Zafira doesn't take curves as well and I notice slippery roads with it more. Like I said, though, I went from a Nissan Primera, which is quite sporty and low to the road, to a MPV, so it may just be me! Lastly, and this is really kind of minor, but irritating, is that they give only one cup holder for the front seat here on the Zafiras sold in Sweden. Not sure if it is the same on the ones sold elsewhere, but it's irritating as all getout when there are two who have drinks sitting up front and the cup holder is not only in an awkward place, under the arm rest and in the middle of the parking brake area, but only one, no less, so you end up with someone holding their drink and the other person trying to maneuver theirs into the one holder there is. Opel tried to tell me it was a safety feature so that the driver wouldn't drink and drive, but yeah... right... like I'm buying that ridiculousness! Seems more dangerous to me to have the driver fumbling around with trying to get their drink safely stowed!
Fuel mileage seems to be ok for a car this size. I've not run it on summer tires yet, only winter spike tires. I'm interested in seeing what it does on summer tires. We've taken it on a couple of 3 hour + trips already and there were no problems with comfort at all, which is appreciated greatly!
It's still a "new car" for us, so it's going to be interesting to see how it progresses, but as for now, we're really happy with it as a family. I do wish we had gotten the sunroof model, but it was getting pricy and we had to quit while we were ahead with the extra's! We did get the leather steering wheel, nice tire/wheel packet, dark cloth interior, cargo net, and we're getting the splash guards put on as soon as they come in in an attempt to lower some of the spray that ends up on the rear windows.
All in all, though, we're really pleased with the car and would recommend it to others as it stands now! |
