| General comments: |
Wartburg cars were built for drivers who wanted basic transportation, and that's just what they were! Many owners were previously motor-cycle riders and were familiar with 2 stroke engines. Wartburg were the last company to use 2 strokes in car manufacturing, and as a result of UK emission rules, none were imported after about 1976. BUT, the cars were designed to need the minimun of servicing and had none of the computerised gizmos in modern cars. I am currently having another one professionally restored and hope have the car at the annual Wartburg "get together" at Stamford Hall in May 2007. Driving a car with a free-wheel is an experience I can only describe as "different", which I think sums these cars up perfectly! Anyone reading this who is intersted in these vehicles is welcome to contact me by email or to check out the Wartburg Owners' Club web site |
