| What things have gone wrong with the car? |
Clutch Cylinder failed - replaced under warranty.
Front brake pads replaced - just time to replace.
The GDI engine may return good fuel consumption but it does have a slight flaw... The service intervals are 9000 miles but because the engine runs very lean in the ECO mode the injectors get coked and by about 6000 miles or so the engine has a tendency to stall at idle, more particuarly when your brake down from road speeds over 50 mph to stop the engine stalls.... Its a pain, you can have the BASE idle reset by your dealer which solves the problem until next service (they will do this in the service usually anyway) but if you dont have a Mitsibishi Warranty it will cost you £30+ at your dealer for this minor adjustment... Its a small flaw in an otherwise great engine and when you get 30+ mph on average from an off roader its only a small gripe. Do not think you have major problems if your car does this... its normal. |
| General comments: |
Good equipment specs on the Elegance (A/C, Front Fogs/ electric windows/sunroof etc) and a standard CD/Mp3 player will slot in instead of the factory fitted one easily with a small adaptor for the leads (£15.00 or so) and about ten mins changeout...but you do lose some of the Multifunctions on the LCD screen if you opt to do this. The Pinin 3 Door that I had is a great looking car and has been reliable apart from the niggle on stalling and the failed clutch. They really are great as off road cars, in recent bad weather (Snow, ice, -5 temps) it performed incredibly, but for ice use lock and low ratio in about 3rd / 4 th. Now the bad points..... Front space is great with a good driving position but wheel is fixed and it can be tricky to get the right position, back space is awful. Its main reason Im changing to an older but bigger 4x4. The backseats really are occasional, and if you need to move anything bigger than a couple of bags of shopping you will have to drop the backseats...its not a choice. And please note that the 3dr version only has 4 seatbelts - thereis no center belt. Access to backseats is awkward and only for the fit...
Ride quality is also not great, low speeds will make you think your off road even on tarmac.... not bad on motorways but noisy. Off road its not bad at all though.
I really do suggest as well that you get a warranty with the car and preferably from a dealer - like many japanese cars they are very reliable but expensive when they go wrong. Also makesure the cars been serviced properly... The GDI engine is unique to Mitshibishi and is best left to specialists. I have always found service good at my dealer - far better than sales...
